Where should I go on half term holiday?

I take my daughter away each year, usually first week of June because her school takes two weeks off whereas my wife only gets a week for that holiday.

Last few years we've been to Haven in Wales which is ace, cheap and is near enough to llandegla on the way, coed y brenin and a few castles for wandering about.

Did a bit of a Scotland roadtrip as well for a week which was great. Fort William and Cairngorms. Go to glentress a few times a year, serves as a good stop on the way up Scotland as well.

Where would you go? Got a campervan, can do Saturday to Saturday first week of june. Would like access to some decent bike trails suitable for a ten year old.

Part of me wants to go further up Scotland. But should we do BPW? Forest of dean? Kielder? Should we go to Europe?

Throw ideas at me!!

Perhaps not for the bike trails but I highly recommend Isle of Mull. I used to take my kids away on Dad Adventure Holidays for a week each year and Mull was the favourite. Loads of places to explore, can see the Sea Eagles, boat to Staffa for puffins, lots of beaches and coves, great hills. Lovely stuff. And everyone loves a ferry ride (when the ferrys are working)

Should we go to Europe?

how about hopping on a ferry over to Ireland?

Holyhead-Dublin and Belfast-Liverpool would give you a nice few days touring in the van up the east coast of Ireland, taking in the Wicklow Mountains and Mourne Mountains:

Mull sounds good

Head west would be my tip

South Wales for trail centres. Afan has a nice blue. Loads of other including BPW

The Pembrokeshire for Puffins on Skomar, rib trips, surfing, coastering, walking etc.

I'd give Mull a miss if driving about , so many other parts of Scotland with great roads other than the islands or north coast 500

Fuel cost will be high and add on the cost of the ferries, better start booking them now

As my mum was born there, I’ve spent most of my June half terms in Dumfries & Galloway, it’s a great time to be there and you’ll get a good mix of biking and other things to do. In my experience it’s been the sunniest time of the year, although I admit that’s not saying much.

We did a week staying at Sandyhills in Dumfries and Galloway a couple of times in May/ June half term when the kids were smaller and we had a camper van. The bluebells run down to the sand dunes by the beach, a sea arch to wander through a couple of miles up the coast, biking in Mabie and Dalbeattie forests (can ride to Dalbeattie through the forest). Castle in Castle Douglas is accessed by a ferry. Plenty to do for a few days or stop off in the Lakes or head further North or West from there.

How about cycle camping in Holland? Bikes on the ferry leaving the car at the UK port. There are lots of small campsites and the cycle path network is second to none. Junior found it fascinating at that age.
