Bed and mattress centre in chichester is good. Not useful if you're not on the south coast though!!

Ikea bed good, ikea mattress bad. Presently fighting to get a refund on a mattress. Remember they're funny sizes too so once you've committed it's more difficult to buy elsewhere.

They have lots of options and I hoped that with a 90 day exchange policy they'd be alright 🙁

Just bought a new mattress - looked at Ikea, John Lewis, local independent and have bought from Sleepmaster. Lovely mattress, great service and good price. Nearly went with Ikea, but didn't order there and then, came home and looked at reviews on the net. They totally put me off, lots of bad press there. Though they do now do some 4'6" mattresses as well as Euro sizes.

Perhaps worth qualifying, my (and others on the net) problem is with their pocket spring mattresses, comfy to start with but within a year big 'dents' appear where you sleep. Super uncomfy after a while, sleeping in a hollow. Their foam mattresses may be ok though, we haven't tried cos we don't like the squidge.

barker and storehouse is good, not that much more than ikea unless you're getting the cheap stuff.... I got a really nice kingsize bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 bedside tables for £1200

Mattressman, same matresses as in Dreams but at least 20% cheaper and next day delivery too.

I heartily recommend the wonderful Unto This Last

http://www.untothislast.co.uk/Storage/Bedside.html

Painfully hip furniture collective in Brick Lane. Their stuff is lovely, mostly made from Birch ply with all kinds of funky laminates and designs. Not expensive and about a zillion times nicer than IKEA, which is Swedish for "depressing".
