I need a quarter of a litre for a herb schnapps I am making (well, I am NOT making the schnapps as such, I just mix it with herbs and some other stuff). From googling it it seems that you only can buy denatured alcohol? REALLY ?
Any help appreciated ....
Cheap vodka = %40 ethanol, %60 water.
Do you have to ask why it's hard to get hold of?
Why not just start with schnapps?
Well, I have been given the recipe of this drink I have tried in Austria, and it requires 90% + wine spirit. It is readily available in countries like Germany and Austria yet here it is not. And molgrips, yes, sadly it seems the UK needs to be nannied that way.... as for Schnaps, the base ingridient is Obstler Schnaps, I have 10 litres on order from Austria.
you don't want anything like "pure" ethanol (anything over 95% will likely have benzene or some similar shite in there) and you def don't want denatured alcohol
Cheap voddy, as glenh suggests
EDIT: self moderated.
In Germany everyone who makes drinks gets 96.5% pure alcohol from the pharmacy, I doubt it is dangerous (content wise) in any way. I might have to find a strong vodka (40%0 is not enough), though am worried it adds some flavour, unlike the alcohol.
I have got it now from a German website, ordered Tuesday, arrived today...
