Agreed! And also ordering any cheap webcam from Amazon has a delivery date of May.

I bought a Hue HD Pro for my desktop for online teaching. Basically a webcam on a flexible neck with a base. You can point is at the desk for demos like a cheap visualiser. But it is great for a webcam too and because it is flexible it was easy to get the right angle. A slightly wider angle camera than normal so also great for 'two up' web chats.

Plug and play - just worked out of the box with no need to install the bundled software.

My Dad likes his desktop PC. He does not have an iPad or want to piss about with one 😉

He does want a webcam though...

We just went for something cheap as it won't be used often and not too fussed about how good it is. It hasn't arrived yet so can't comment on the quality, will update this thread if I remember 😉

I had an Amazon echo show 8 that I've set up for my mother.
Works like apple facetime (Not as good quality) but is great as I've told other family members to call her on the device.
Think the echo 8 is £60 at the moment.
Worth the money just for video calling and keeping a check on her.

Also if you all have mobiles, then install google duo. It's a video calling app which works on android as well as ios so you're not tied to either operating system.

2 weeks ago when this started every business in the land realised they might soon have to WFH / cancel F2F meetings. I found mine through pure luck, after not finding any on amazon / ebay / trade suppliers etc, I actually found one misplaced under some keyboard in ASDA.

I’m a bit late to the game on this, but working from home i now have 2 full size monitors and my webcam is on my laptop, so I look at the monitors in meetings and not directly at the camera.

Can anyone recommend a camera <£15 with microphone?

In typical STW fashion, I will suggest something you didn't ask for at all!

You can get little fold out laptop stands for a tenner or so. Raises the laptop up so the camera (if it's at the top of the screen - some laptops have them at the keyboard level) to eye level.

I have that setup at work and have a screen to the left and right of the laptop.

Thanks Yourg, but my point is not the height of the cam, but the angle. I look at a monitor directly in front of me and the laptop with webcam in is off to the side, so in meetings I am never looking at the webcam, hence needing something to put directly in front of me

Not really up to speed on cameras but what you suggest does work well. I have my camera (an old PlayStation cam) on a little flexi stand. Put it in front of the monitor when chatting and it centres your stare.

Edit- just had a quick look on eBay and my camera (ps3 eye) is less than a tenner. Does the job.

The basic Microsoft or Logitech ones are ok. Work fine for the smile / wave / chat and what most have had at work for the last 18 months. Any of the ones in your budget at Argos (or similar general store) will work fine and simple ones usually just work without need extra software or fancy internet bandwidth.
Wilko have one for a tenner. Will probably be fine too.
