I started a DB5 once, the sound was amazing, Astons have a lovely growl. I quite like an original beetle too.

at full chat it screams;

Panoz GTR-1. Ear splitting V8 that you could identify from a campsite 2 miles from the track.
Ferrari 333sp. Such a silky smooth V12 tone

Will try and get some clips when not on my phone.

I saw/heard the 4 rotor Mazda engine in it's last race at Le Mans. It was certainly an interesting noise, too much like a jumped up Dyson vacuum for me though

I used to a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle with a 454cu LS6 engine, 454 bhp and just starting it up was estatic! on tick over is sounded so menacing. i sold it to my mate in order to buy my first house but I only have to hear an american big block chevy and the memories flood back!

Actually as a visual spectacle this one runs the BRM close;

42 litre Bentley flame thrower;

not many people get a round of applause for letting their car idle for a bit 🙂

Nobby - top man for suggesting the Mazda.

How about a BDA Escort full chat on a forest stage - hearing it in the distance going up and down through the box as it gets closer, before bursting into view round the corner in a hail of stones and engine noise - makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck every time!

The Old American Block V8 as fitted to Range Rovers, Rover SD1, Aston Martins etc - just that lazy rich burble.

Favorite incarnation of it would be the AC Cobra..

Story goes that Shelby (the man) when selling his first Cobras stuck a $100 bill to the inside of the windscreen and told customers sitting in the passengers seat, if they could reach it before the car hit 60mph they could keep it...

subaru 2.5 (with a 'normal' exhaust) driven lazily just sounds lovely to my ears.

almost (but not quite) a bit like a spitfire - effortless and burblely.

nothing loud or clattery for me please.

Best sounding would be an Aston, even if I would rather have a Ferrari given a choice.

I wonder how many people know what an AJP8 is ?

Heard a few on a tunnel run last weekend, also great on the over run.

used to reguklarly see a chapo in the village with a Toyota Hilux with a Blown V8 in it, intakes out the bonnet job, has the joy of hearing it at Full chat going up a two lane section just out of town,

stumbled into rally of cornwall some years back, Metro 6r4's sound Very nice!!!

Has to be Mercedes AMG SLK, the one they use as the pace car for GP. It sounds like the space ship from the modern Star Wars films 🙂

A 1275cc Austin Sprite with a single exhaust, backing off in a tunnel, roof off, wonderful bubbling/backfiring sound, will never forget that, used to drive miles to find tunnels to that in 😉

subaru 2.5 (with a 'normal' exhaust) driven lazily just sounds lovely to my ears.

Now I am a bit older, have to agree with the above.

French Matra V12s always sounded fantastic. This clip of a Ligier Matra F1 is the best sounding clip I can find although the late 60s/early 70s Matra sportscars sounded wonderful. You can just about hear them screaming in the background during Steve McQueen's "Le Mans" film.

Hmmm, RS1800 (Group 4 Spec.) or a Group B 6R4, or maybe a hillclimb single seater, Pillbeam etc.

Not an RS1800, but a 16v valve Pinto conversion (Warrior?) I believe, but otherwise probably to Gp. 4 spec (two bonus single seaters) [url=

Patient: Doctor, Doctor! Whenever I break wind, it sounds like a small Japanese motor car.

Doctor: Calm down. I suspect you have a small, pus-filled area in your colon.

Patient: But how can you tell?

Doctor: Everyone knows an abscess make the fart go "Honda"

Thinking about it, just about anything nicely tuned sounds pretty damn good, and the opposite is also true. Anything not well tuned but with a large exhaust in an attempt to sound good to those who don't know any better sounds absolutely crap.

Most memorable exhaust notes I have heard.
Calloway Corvette (at Le Mans).
Lister XJS V12 7 litre
Metro 6 R4
F1 cars with a V10 in the back.

At the track day I went to at North Weald whre I drove the F430,the Maerati Gran Turissmo and Vanatge V8 also sounded pretty good.

There was another with a Tubi-exhausted Ferrari zooming past the camera man and on shift up I swear I had a hard on 8)

Panoz (prototype that followed the GT1) awesome V8, side-exit noise, especially from 1min 20s on

🙂

when it was cold, yes, but you'd be surprised at the rich deep burbly raspy thunder that came out of the back end when it had warmed up - especially after a long motorway run.
it was such a contrast though as the previous owner had been meticulous in his eradication of rattles by putting random bits of sponge in literally every gap and join inside the car.

hell yes!
I deliberated for weeks over which Peco to get.
in the end, there was only one choice.

No video but my first car was a Mini 1275GT with a peco big bore, I was a total hooligan with that car and at night used to drag race with one of my neighbours who had a Mini 1000 with the same along Princes St in Edin circa 1991.

I moved onto a Lancia Beta HPE after that which had a large twin weber carb fitted, the noise of it sucking air into the engine was glorious, the engine was a rough as a bag of old nails at idle but at full chat it was smooth and would run all day (provided the days were like those on mercury...i.e. very short!)
