In response to the other thread...
I'm doing the family camping thing for the first time next week, in the Peak District. Me, the Mrs, toddler & baby. What have I forgotten?
One of those solar panel thingies. Sad, but true.
...when camping at festivals, a big bottle to piss in was handy, as saved getting out the tent. Probably not the sort of suggestion you're after, though....and apologies to anyone I shared a tent with.
Redstripe, decent mattress and ear plugs
Plastic wine glasses and a bottle opener...
Ear plugs... with baby and toddler you'll need to maximise what little chance of sleep you have ๐
Flip-flops.

Ha! Not a bad shout...
Ear plugs and pillow. Howling wind and rain begone, i'm sleeping.
Oh and two 4 pint milk bottles, the frosted type. One for pissing in, one to fill with water and wrap a head torch around, the light pointed inwards at the water makes an awesome ambient glow. you can mix these up if you want an amber glow ๐
The mallet - you only forget it once, mind.
When we had young kids - the black out cover for their pod in the tent.
Lamp - not torch
slip on shoes, crocs or similar - saves trailing grass and debris into tent, ideal for nipping our for night time pee or whatever
A folding table enhances things more than you would think. Much easier than srambling around on the floor.
T4
tent
Electric hook up n electric kettle...
.....babies bottles, stress releaving cup of tea, etc
And beer/wine to chill out.
Cash for a hotel room.
Flip flops for nipping to the loo and using the shower block. Pop up chairs are good, too. And a duvet, no need for sleeping bags, make a proper bed.
Pee bottle. I find an Oasis bottle works well, except for maybe after ill-advised few late pints when you'll potentially exceed the 500ml capacity. The wife might get jealous though so make sure there's a little porch area she can squat and pee in.
Hipflask and my Aeropress
Oooh hipflask - I hadn't thought of that.
spondonicle
All good tips but a really good sleeping mat will deffo make your camping experience a more pleasurable one, like This

Worst forum name ever
Ear plugs and a pillow for me
I also like to have a chair to be able to sit on
I've spent a small fortune on gear like a large tent, good sleeping mats, tables etc, but these tips for small items like flip flops and earplugs are really useful.

Crocs>>>>>>>>>>>>Flip Flops
Comfy chairs, a lot of camping is sitting.
Decent lantern, gas ones are the best but they're a bit scary, so decent battery lamp.
Concur with pillow.
T5 California darling, naturally.
We have a gas powered fridge, one of the best camping related purchases I've made along with a roof-top box for the car.
Dog - Keeps me entertained.
Wife - Keeps dog entertained.
Wine - Keeps wife entertained.

Not to mention the sort of anti social prat you get on camp sites these days.
I'm not sure I'd get away with taking (or want to take) a masked woman camping with the family.
I can see why you take her but i feel certain the missues would go mental
Handy thread this as I'm compiling a list for the Rapha Tempest festival.
Shotgun.
headtorch
Flip flops and electric hook up. We only bought the hook up this year and it made such a difference - just being able to check opening hours for stuff and maps and all that sort of stuff on our phones during a 10 day trip rather than scrambling around to find plug sockets in cafes. Less of an issue for shorter trips though.
whiskey , gets you off to sleep but doesn't wake you up for a piss
Phone numbers for nearest BnB's
I bought an inflatable Coleman sofa. Best. Thing. Ever. Changed camping forever.
No-one has mentioned wind-blocks, not to block the wind but to clearly demarcate your territory! This is more vital than even a tent.
Given you're taking a toddler and a baby I would suggest for yourself Valium, Prozac, St John's Wort or similar so you don't flip your lid at the constant stream of fellow campers returning very noisily from the pub, waking up said children who only fell asleep five minutes ago. You can send yourself off to sleep (eventually) in the certain knowledge that you'll get your own back on these rowdy revellers when your two wake up at first light, which I think is about 5am at the moment. ๐
Happy camping!

My eldest likes to sing very loudly at first light, just to make sure everyone's awake...
So what did I learn?
1. A week of continual rain is very, very tiresome.
2. The kids had a great time, regardless.
Toilet roll. ๐
Otherwise you will need to use the leafs on the ground or use your hand to wipe your backside.
Concur with Dr P. We had a wood chopping / machete related injury this weekend. Luckily we had a well stocked first aid kit and two qualified nurses. So all patched up and marshmallows duly toasted. Which is my camping essential. Marshmallows and choccy digestives for making smores. Yummy. If not quite ideal for children just before bed!
Tent Carpet and head torch
Headtorch
Swiss Army Knife
Hipflask
Small BBQ that also doubles as a fire pit
Folding chairs.
Folding fish holder thing for BBQ .
Jeeeeep.
