Coloured my then jet black hair with blond highlights for some reason. There are rather too many photos around to deny it ever happened.
Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don't look around my eyes, look into my eyes, you're under.
Would have to be my Indie/Madchester phase with the long hair, partially brought on by a six month placement in Germany and not knowing how to ask for a haircut. Worse even than when I bleached my hair; at least that made my grandfather laugh like a drain every time he saw me.
I don't understand the question, I've always been awesome.
(This of course isn't true, I've always been unfashionable but at least I've been consistently unfashionable so it'd be hard to pinpoint a specific instance.)
Early/mid 90s during high school I was sporting a middle parting aka 'curtains'. Think Brad Pitt. Unfortunately the reality resulted in a brief adoption of a 'Brad Shit' nickname...
this was pretty grim. prepare the eye bleach.
I'll have to find some photos. maybe my punk phase with ripped jeans and a suit jacket with the shoulder pads taken out? could be the big purple hair in the 80s?

Age restricted, I had to sign in to watch. Oh dear lord what are my next week's worth of suggested videos going to be 🤣

Yeah, could be. Or.......
Oh I have had worse looks 🙂
When my hair first grew back after the chemotherapy when I was 19 it came back curly - never was curly before, hasn't been curly since. However this coincided with a poor decision that I was give growing long hair a go, so I didn't get it cut for about a year. That didn't work very well at all, but at least it came back under control when I did get it cut.
OP - You would somewhat unironically fit in well with the current young folk in that get-up. The current meta is to dress like you don't care in loose fitting clothes (but care a lot). I am probably a bit guilty of this.
I am a bit younger (maybe not!) than many of this parish and when I was at uni, it was around 2010 when everyone was dressing in very tight everything and had haircuts inspired by the Hitler youth. I definitely had that down, complete with messenger bag and tight cardigan. Absolutely dreadful.
I don't think I have a photo. Now I just dress like someone kicked a menswear mannequin through a Cotswold Outdoors and call it a day.
I believe I've just brought this topic to a close ! 😂😂😂😂
Late 70's, early 80's?
for me, going from being big mohawked nutter, to having to look like a ***** normal and get a job working with townies.
@Cougar I had to Google that 👍
@ASTR 1978!👍
Just been looking through old photo's and found a picture of my parents from the early '70's (maybe late 60's) - only pic of them I've ever seen of them together and didn't see this until I was 51 and my mum (and dad) had passed
There are pictures of me in my nu-wave/goth era somewhere in the universe....
Is that a moustache I see scotroutes?
Is that a moustache I see scotroutes?
I had a moustache for over 10 years. I first grew it when I got fed up of being mistaken for being a lot younger than I was. Now it only resurfaces every Winter as part of a full set.
ma mullet when I was 13, funnily enough my 15 year old son now has something similar!
@ASTR I started in 1969 as a skinhead , then a suede head , then a Rod Stewart style haircut , I'm now back to my skinhead haircut , at 70 choice is limited 🙄
@ASTR
Summer 1975 Bournemouth, still together, Golden Wedding next year 👍
Not sure I,m ever going to recover from this thread.
In 6th form, mid 80's I decided to get my hair permed. By my mum.
I still remember going into school looking like a male and very lanky Shirley Temple. No photo was allowed to exist of me during this time, I travelled the multiverse to ensure it was so.
A few years later, after discovering the magnificence of Bladerunner, a film I'm still a little obsessed with, I went through my Rutger Hauer phase. This resulted in me deciding to get my hair bleached. By my mum.
In fairness, that didn't go that bad, though I was more of a strawberry blond than the white haired replicant that was Roy Batty.
There is a picture of me during this period but luckily I can't find it.
'I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...'
This resulted in me deciding to get my hair bleached.
Ah yes. I did that too at one point. In fairness, I was raising funds for charity.
“Now I just dress like someone kicked a menswear mannequin through a Cotswold Outdoors and call it a day”
if that’s your own work, it’s brilliant.
For a couple of years in the early 90s I had my curly hair straightened and in curtains. I had the baggy jeans, the anorak, I looked like Shaun Ryder and it was awesome. Photos exist but IDK where, suffice to say im not looking.
Wind on 30 years, hair (what remains) is back to natural and while I wouldn't describe myself as a looker, I've aged considerably better than Shaun.
This thread reminds me of…
A friend got me a card with this photo on in the late 90s. Very hard to look at!
I knew where it was at. Christmas Day wear. Pony tail AND cardigan. Oh yes.

When I had all my dreads cut off after not visiting a barber for 15 years. Took a long time to get used to the new look. Now I'm glad I've just got some hair still.
1973-1974, long lank hair and a school uniform
Mid 90s Green hair, spiked dog collar (a real one not some "fashion piece" a real thick ,heavy dog collar off a stall on Chesterfield market that I adorned with stainless studs), huge boots, camo trousers, dads old donkey jacket, metal band T shirt. looking back it was a great look! I wish I had enough hair to dye now because i'd go green again in a heartbeat.
As a rebellious teen it seemed to ruffle all the right feathers (including being accused of being a demon by a street preacher!)

Watching the first Aston Villa game in 1875
On a slightly different topic, this photo was taken when I was an extra on an episode of Ripper Street. I use it as my WhatsApp profile. Waiting at a bar for the owner of the Airbnb we'd booked in Cadiz to come with the keys, I spotted a very flustered bloke looking around the square for somebody who matched the picture on his phone.
Mind you, the picture on my Senior Railcard is the spitting image of Jeffrey Epstien's custody photo.
Lilac patchwork Trolls... c.
I remember seeing those being advertised, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy them, so went for plain black ones, which I’ve still got somewhere. A couple of seams had come apart, but I’ve had them stitched up. Dunno when I’m likely to wear them, I live in shorts most of the time.
I’ve got very few photos of myself, and hardly any from years past, I never hung out with friends who had cameras around. 🤷🏼♂️
This is the only fairly old photo I’ve got, I was looking through a bag of packets of photos, and found one from when I went to the Vail World Championships, and there’s one that someone else on the trip took of me, with my SuperVee 3000; we were riding the fire road up to Mid Vail, at just over 10,000 feet.
I had a lot more hair in ‘94…

No tattoos back then, either. If you take a close look at the top of the main tube just by the water bottle and below the steerer, there’s some white writing - that’s Missy Giove’s signature, she signed my bike after winning the World Downhill on a SuperVee. 😁
And some time in the '80's 🙄
Eeh, he thinks the sun shines out of his arse, that 'un!
PS I know it's a bit gauche to rib people about photos that they've posted online without also posting your own, but I'm afraid I am too much of a coward. Sorry.
When I had all my dreads cut off after not visiting a barber for 15 years. Took a long time to get used to the new look. Now I'm glad I've just got some hair still.
Believe me, you definitely didn’t look worse AFTER the dreads were cut off.
It was 1991. I no longer wear colour and I grew my hair out.
Similar look for me in the 90s. Fluro t-shirts and Bermuda shorts. Also went through the shellsuit phase, and bright Nevica jackets. Thought I had a photo but it must be on my other PC somewhere.
I think getting into snowboarding and skateboarding (and the associated hip hop and punk music) in 1995 saved me from becoming a raver/chav like most of my mates at the time, and I've dressed like a skatebum ever since.
As a student I stopped hair and beard cutting for quite a while, “luckily” I got a summer job on a farm lifting bales etc, went to near skinhead after my first very, very sweaty week at work.

I avoided shellsuits. This was a holiday look, and some stuff I used for biking, however most of the time it was blue or black jeans, some rock/metal T shirt and leather jacket. I think at that time, I was 16 so it would have been BK basketball boots on my feet....
I avoided shellsuits.
Luckily no photos exist of my shellsuit phase. It was a lovely purple/green Reebok one!

I only had mine 2 years - but they had to go as they could only handle so much chlorine and swimming - But those would probably fit the thread criteria.
blame Dylan Tremblay.
Probably this.
I don't miss the craze for us all to have pixelated faces like a 90s computer game.
There was a point in the late 90's where I basically looked like Neil from the Young Ones. I also owned a pair of stripey trousers. I don't know what I was thinking but it really wasn't a good look!
All my 'looks' have been carried out with style and panache.
I was pretty blind back in the day -6 or thereabouts and wore Deirdre Langton big glasses, no wonder I had a complex
1999 I got zapped but 27 years on I'm back to -2.5 but Oakley £100 great fit and don't mind wearing them although they are on my hair half the time to read anything
In 6th form, mid 80's I decided to get my hair permed. By my mum.
When I was in 6th form (late 80's) one of the guys decided to get his hair highlighted in the 6th form block, by one of the other 6th formers. Ended up looking like songthrush plumage, but with inverted colours.
That was after the flat top, and the wet-look gel perm phase.
Me in the 80's would have looked similar to OP, especially the thumb hookage.
****ed and knackered looking almost 60 year old chubber
Thinking about it, I have a 1980s high school era photo somewhere. Jeans, pastel colours and a Frank Sidebottom haircut. I'll see if I can find it.
Once I got to Uni I grew out my enforced side parting, I spend a good while with a very bad haircut. My difficult second album is going to be Accidental Mullet but it was worth it eventually. I was going to say "it's amazing I ever got laid" but then I remembered, I didn't.
Kicking around somewhere is a photo of a 14 or 15 year old long haired me in the late 70s. I'm on a school bus trip to Switzerland with my head in a bucket after drinking two thirds of a bottle of duty free whiskey before getting out of bed that morning. It was meant to be a present to take home for my dad. And another one of me laid on a pavement puking into the lake in Interlaken. Neither were very good looks!
Went through the mullet phase in the early/mid 80s which was questionable but fashionable followed by the strange decision to wear my hair in a pony tail while the top went thinner and thinner until there was nowt left. Photos of that period make me cringe. Thankfully I eventually saw sense and shaved what was left off and been a baldy ever since.
fortunately I cannot find the photo of mein a turquoise suit. Nor the big purple hair
Fortunately indeed.
Skinhead biker.
I've no actual photos from that time, but I reckon the Police have quite a number.
I reckon it has to be my 1990/91 triple denim days...
Oh, I definitely have Double Denim evidence from exactly the same time. Complete with Converse basketball boots.
Is it possible to wear a denim jacket these days? The last time I wore mine was at a 1980s party event.
Is it possible to wear a denim jacket these days?
Definiteley, I still occasionally do although OH ribs me for the double denim thing. A few weeks ago a mate of ours who is certainly of a cooler look than me came to the pub sporting the double denim look so I was able to use him as my justification.
Complete with Converse basketball boots.
Is it possible to look cool if you are wearing Dunlop basketball boots? - asking for a friend. Used to call em baseball boots when I was a kid or is that something different?
When I had all my dreads cut off after not visiting a barber for 15 years. Took a long time to get used to the new look. Now I'm glad I've just got some hair still.
i worked with a fella once who had the full wigga blond dreadset. Turned up on day without them. He’d realised he actually gone bald and had been wearing a dread hat for some time…
Found it.

Mind you, the picture on my Senior Railcard is the spitting image of Jeffrey Epstien's custody photo.
Before or after the strangling? (Too soon)?
