mousefindergeneral - as has been said, former friend of ours made a brief appearance on some auction hunt program on telly.

Danlees is still around but not on here

sootyandjim similarly

Chemo - god rest his soul, although i doubt his soul ever really rests if it's anything like the rest of him was

swisschali is still kicking around

polly is still very much alive, lives near us in fact we are going to the pub with her tomorrow, don't think she rides any more really

42 - now works for MI5

'Alice' failed to get into a decent medical school

andyc - still a mate of mine but more into harleys than mountain bikes

sara - international girl of mystery now, runs an mtb events company amongst other things

cyclenaut - still on here under the same name i believe

panama - went the way of the darkside, still rides with Jedi

oh and i was 'Mike' back in the day

and the Prawn....well where do i start.

Who else from 2003ish has gone AWOL or is still around, other than you?

I've been around since at least 2003 I think (although probably originally as niblue). When I first signed up I was happily riding a cheapo Carrera Kraken as my only bike, now I've got 6 including two Cotics, an On-One, a Ti bike and 2 full-susses. Bet my wife is happy I found this place...

Been around since... erm... god knows when! I kind of stopped being on line much though after changing jobs 5 years back (away from IT to something outdoors) so have barely been on STW since then. My mountain biking has dropped off the edge of a cliff too the last couple of years. Too many things clammering for time, and moving away from all the riding mates has almost been the final nail.

Almost.

Keep hoping I can find the enthusiasm to start getting out more and meet some new folk to ride with. I mean... living in the Lakes now it shouldn't be that hard should it?

(sometimes I miss Stirling)

BAD times!

Tell the lazy old git to get back on his mountain bikes... Harleys are just 2 wheeled tractors, he could at least have a decent bike like a Ducati (and you can tell him I said that!) 😉

Has he still got his 911 though?

Indeed.

Piersb - great articles in the earlier mags ("I count myself lucky I can still maintain a bike and an erection, though not at the same time") and good value contributions here.

Samuri is still here, trying (and failing) to offend the fat last I saw - pity no more mag articles from him.

2003 was a golden era, I agree.

I got advice on bikes (Orange Sub 5 vs, Ellsworth Isis), how to mitigate the visible cost of transactions to the nosey (a.k.a. my wife), unblocking drains, met people for rides all over the place incl. Drac who left me for dead and spent many a happy day doing no work whatsoever. And generally the place had great humour with few people getting uppity as seems commonplace now.

Russ Pinder was a regular around that time. I remember the shock and horror when the thread went up on here about his fall, and the aftermath as it became clear how bad it was. Definitely had a sense of community about it ... maybe it still does - maybe I should spend more time here again!

I can remember spending lots of time splitting my sides at the scurrilous and unedifying assertions and swipes on here. It has got more self-righteous but there is the occasional thread that stirs up some damned good collective absurdity, obscenity and humour.

Yep, I was being made redundant sometime around 2003 and instead of working I decided to make use of their internet connection.

Lo and behold I stumbled across STW and I wasted a whole month on it. Been a fan ever since.

excessive drinking? glentress strikes a bell. i have a picture of you and the bloke from bike verbier (yan?) who's calves were bigger than all of you. in fact i think mousefindergeneral, panama, polly, lucy, phil, andyc, kirstie (mrsmw), debs, mrsmfg (ex, now lesbian) and various other former stw reprobates were there as well.
