Auchentoshan Triple Wood.
Slight hijack, hope you dont mind..
Needing to get some whisky in before Christmas for any visitors that fancy a dram - the booze chest is currently whisky free. (I've never invested much time into whisky as good rum has always kept me happy!)
Any recommendations for a couple of half-decent bottles that will cover most bases & tastes?
Maybe one that's more accessible to whisky novices, then one that's complex enough for the more experienced drinkers?
12 yo Aberfeldy from Amazon, nice whisky, nice distillery and a nice town!
Was £23 delivered the other day, bargain
Highland park... good enough for Rebus... good enough for you lot 😉
glenmorangie is a smooth, easy drink to offer guests
especially if you get another bottle that has a bit more bite
Cardhu gold reserve, delightful.
Definitely a fan of whisky aged in Port casks
hmm - works for softer whiskies like speysides but I had a Talisker with port finish and it was awful. Talisker has a strong, distinctive taste which just clashed with the port finish. Glenmorangie's Quinta Rubain on the other hand....

Mortlach and Old Perth sherry finish. Both will do both jobs.
meanwhile, I really enjoyed my talisker port cask
I like the Lagavulin 8 not sure on price though
I love sherry cask whisky especially the islay ones mmmm..
Benromach
Dalmore is tasty stuff. Full, rich smooth.
Balblair is good if they like something lighter. Check with shop if it's a good year tho. I did hear that some weren't as good as others.
I quite fancy trying that Japanese one that was the first whiskey in space. Can't remember it's name / think it's a little over the budget.

Just to +1 what Coconut said, Highland Park is the answer here I fear.
