Just had a very distraught call from a best friends fiancé, who has said my best mate has been knocked off his bike and is now in hospital. Turns out a car was speeding round a corner, on the wrong side of the road, friend swerved to avoid and collided with fence posts, knocked out and came round in ambulance. He has swelling on the brain, his case has been referred to Kings in London, a broken jaw and is pretty much bandaged all over. Going to give him a ring this evening to see if he is OK, but it looks like he will be in hospital for a while...at a rather rubbish time (he is more worried about the virus than his injuries!).

Going to put a little care package together for him and send to his OH. He loves his road riding, football etc. What would you want in a care package if you were going to have to spend a long time off the bike? T.I.A!

I think you have a few different areas to cover here with your care package, first is the hospital stay so anything that will distract from the boredom of being bed ridden for however long he is in there.

If he doesn't have a laptop or tablet can you lend him one with some headphones? and if possible as many subscription log ins as you can borrow or source, to go with these he'll need somewat to connect to the internet, he could tether if he has unlimited data or maybe a sim card router thing. After that books & magazines will help pass the time too.

The other is treats, so if in for awhile he'll be getting the basic meals, so some treats like biscuits, crisps or fizzy drinks might be appreciated. The other is toiletries razor, shaving foam, shower gel, body moisturisers etc

Another could be comfy thing to be in, maybe some comfy footwear or clothing to lay and or sleep in.

Bit of a brain dump from me, but areas I would consider.

Great ideas, just ordered that bundle, so will post as soon as I get them delivered to me.

Good idea with the food, he thinks his food is contaminated, so a few freeze dried meals may go down well with him!

If he's got concussion, the last thing he needs is visual stimulation from devices or magazines etc. You can't go wrong with grapes though! Hope he gets well soon. I had a stay in hospital after breaking my spine and didn't want to see anybody, but a friend wouldn't take no for an answer and came with homemade biscuits. When I was at my lowest I just couldn't eat even though I knew I had to. So I ate one of his gifts, and then another and then another. It sounds melodramatic but they felt like they stopped me from fading away.

Worth an Amazon Audible sub in the subs bundle.

And build some playlists from BBC Sounds e.g. 30 Minutes to the Moon, series 1 & 2.
