My pc is currently connected to internet via a cabled home plug thing which says 200mbps on it. According to the broadband speed checkers I'm getting about 7Mb/s on that but WiFi on my phone at home is 30Mb/s.
I can USB tether my phone to the PC to improve speeds ( goes upto 30 on the PC if I do that) but I'd like something easier like a USB WiFi dongle? What speed dongle should I be looking at?
Thanks
Depends on your router and how far you are from it. You're very unlikely to ever get the max speed the adapter is rated for as there's so many factors that affect the real world speed.
Just had a quick look and I'd probably go for this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-Archer-T4U-V3-10-710-11/dp/B01N4T93MM
Or Netgear A6210 which is what I used for my Win 10 pc. Argos used to sell them cheap but discontinued them. Wish I bought two at that time.
Very stable no problem whatsoever.
Follow this instruction to install
NETGEAR A6210-100PES AC1200 802.11ac Dual Band (300/867 Mbps) High Gain Wi-Fi USB 3.0 Adapter Or buy one from Ebuyer or from Scan PC (cheaper)
However, I use the Mediateck driver MT7612U instead of Netgear provided driver.
Mediateck website for the driver

Look for an "AC" card/dongle basically.
