Preferably to pick up in a city centre. Not so bothered about calls/sms, need data. Everyone talks about giffgaff, have they got shops?

Giffgaff is just on line as far as I'm aware.

3 if you want to have decent Internet.

I've just spent the past 4 days with my colleague and we both have two phones on O2, (giff gaffs supplier) with no Internet in either phone, we had to resort to using my private 3 phone for all our work emails.

Giffgaff not so good for data in Cumbria.

Ee (orange) has more coverage

Sister from Oz used a Three £15 sim for unlimited data she bought from a local phone shop.

She had calls and text in the U.K. But used tons of data 4G/3G all over Europe, New York & L.A.

5Gb data, 900 mins phone calls and a few hundred text with a bill of £0 other than a purchase of £15 lol

She used the sim which has free data use in other places such as Sweden, Finland, France and the U.S.A.

The Three sims are bought in the UK, I think the credit last 6 months on them, but don't quote me on that.

I just got an EE/Orange one when I arrived. Topped up and had about 4gb of data which was more than enough for about £15-20 or something.

I found some free wifi but not enough at times.

In the end I got a three sim. After cutting it to fit with a pair of nail clippers 😳 I've found I can't top it up without a UK registered bank card, not online at least. Looks like a proper mobile-free holiday on the cards then. Not all bad!

I did the EE one with a top up card that was in the SIM pack and a second top up using a voucher from a garage. Fairly easy, I did need a UK address to register is but just used my parents. I'd just drop into a shop and ask them to do it all for you.

Why can't you just use roaming on your normal phone?

If your not from the EU it will be eye wateringly expensive for not very much of anything

That would be a very good reason not to! Just not sure where the OP is based.

Yeah, roaming is dear with my Spanish provider. After a 150EUR accident last year I told them to turn it off...

Thanks Mark for the offer. I'll ask my old fella to do if there turns out to be any coverage up there.

That much??? Which operator? It was 1€/day with Orange when I went at Christmas... I'd check out their offers, it may be if you activate it beforehand it's a whole load cheaper.

Had a quick google, looks pretty pricy with them - 30€/month for just 200MB! Orange was 1€/100MB/day... Definitely get a UK SIM, then.

Yeah they're not cheap, thanks for checking. Locked into it as part of a broadband and mobile deal, and don't get away often enough to worry about the roaming.

yeah if you want decent data it's still cheaper to buy local. I use an old phone when ever I go overseas. Works well as a WiFi hotspot to keep my current phone working too.

POSTED 3 DAYS AGO # REPORT-POST

Sim was bought over here in London.

I topped it up with my cc but you could buy a voucher or top up online?

Paid £15 and chose the plan which lasts 1 month. For a heavy data user on 4G, it's great! Especially if you visit other countries on your trip.

Great thing about 3 is you're now able to use it abroad in quite a few European countries without any extra charges at all...

Sorry to bring this up again. Off to the U.K. next week. Did you get the sim from a 3 shop on the high street? The airport? Don't suppose it was for an iPhone was it?
Thanks in advance

Sorry, just seen this and probably too late. I bought it in a supermarket in Portland St for a couple of quid. Couldn't top up online due to not having a UK address so went back to the supermarket to do it. Not an iPhone, a dual sim Moto G so I guess I'll leave it in there so I don't leave it at home when we go back to the UK in August (or even to France if what Pepper says is true)

Think my sister got her nano sim from a standard mobile phone high street store.

You could order online and have it delivered to your hotel?

Which phone is it for?
