Tongue-Tite? Floor-Tite? Spax?
Need 45mm as I'm laying 18mm chipboards. Ideally from tradepoint/B&Q but can venture to screwfix if I have to.
50mm Turbo Golds from Screwfix. I like to pre-drill chipboard (pilot), but plenty don't bother.
Great, thanks for the quick reply.
Do I need to glue the T&G?
Not necessarily, but again, I do, using PU Adhesive (the foaming stuff). Depends on what it's a sub-floor for.
going to have cushion floor (lino) on top as its in the kitchen.
oh yes, what width of screws too?!?
(thanks)
I'd use 4x50 and I'd also glue it.
cool, thanks for the help.
I used Tongue-Tite for my last floor and was really impressed by them, a huge amount of grip from such a small head.
ok, one last question, how far should I space the screws? Was thinking of three across a board?
I def recommend gluing.
Im going to have to lift some floors in the barn when I redecorate to glue and re-fit wayroc chipboard floors. I didnt glue when I laid it as I didnt know any better. Big mistake. At least axe murderers cant creep up on me in the night though
3 per joist should be fine. You probably could get away with 2 but 3 is more secure. I usually put 2 screws in the first board, one against the wall edge then one in the middle. Then glue and butt the next board up to it the put the third screw in the first board then next screw just after the join and the centre screw. Put the next board on and repeat screwing sequence. So for every board you put one screw in the previous board and 2 in the new. If that wakes sense. You could do away with the third screw in the initial board. Up to you.
