Need roof bars and box (my life is now fully middle aged) to fit mazda 6 estate, don't mind used.
Halfords saying thule 757 foot pack which is 70/80 alone.
Any thoughts on the halfords own brand or any others etc

Just go Thule. Will work out better when you need spares, or you get a new car.

I just bought some Whispbar ones.
Pretty expensive but look good, are dead quiet and you only have to replace the foot pack when you change cars.
Everything Thule (bike racks etc) fits them too.

I swapped from Thule to Whispbar, when I last changed cars, and wish I had stayed with Thule. Yes, they are quiet and the design is good in theory, but the build quality and finish can't match Thule. Whispbars are expensive and mine are not lasting well, despite light usage.

Also, you might not want to bother with Whispbars unless you keep the bars on the car all the time. They are quieter than Thule (or others) on their own, but the other hardware you put on the bars (bike racks, roofbox, bikes etc) make the same amount of noise. I found that having a car that does a better job of excluding exterior noise, made a bigger difference in practice.

It'll only be for a roofbox for camping to replace the space in the boot the new dog has robbed. Got bike rack on the tow bar.

Harness on dog secured to seat belt on back seat between kids? Get a back seat cover to protect back seats from dog and kids.

ahh, in that case deffo in the boot. Was just throwing up (excuse the pun!) an cheaper option that could save a lot of hassle. Make sure no food for a good hour before travel if you can.

For roof bars, I've had a very brief flirtation with cheaper bars and went back to Thule.

Go for the aluminium T track style ones over the steel ones if you plan to fit accessories (boxes, bike carriers, canoe carriers etc), steel square ones if just for lugging building materials etc.

I've had the aero bars which are fine. Now have the Wing bars for a change. If you go for the latter make sure you fit them fat edge forward. Saw some muppet with them the wrong way round a few months back. 😀

PS been lucky with dogs and sickness so not had to deal with it. But we tend to avoid feeding right before travel just to be safe.

Unless you go same year and model when changing, accept that you will need to buy new kit again...of all the cars I've owned since owning a roof rack, each time I've had to buy new everything apart from once and that was just the bars I didn't need to buy...Thule is fine but it is expensive when needing to buy new bits...

I use the Thule old style foot pack for a square bar that is a universal fit; can't remember the code, got them on ebay for £40.
