As titled, as i am planning to sell my house and move to Cannock when my kid goes to Uni which is not very long now. I don't mind any manual job really as i grew up in coconut and mango farm back home.

A mate was looking into forestry and started a 3 year course up in Penrith in forestry. Covered all the manual skills and the theory and got you into proper forestry jobs etc. for a working forest (all the machinery tickets etc.)

At a lower level chain saw tickets would be a start, have you seen any vacancies? http://www.forestry.gov.uk/vacancies

A little something like this. Whatever it means

http://www.wmjobs.co.uk/careers/details.aspx?nPostingID=15381&nPostingTargetID=20407&option=52&sort=DESC&respnr=18&ID=QO0FK026203F3VBQB796GF60U&Resultsperpage=10&lg=UK&mask=wmj&sType=Indeed

Or this

I just don't know where to start, or is this how middleage (36) think nowadays 😕 Pipedream after pipedream

1st one

You will be a skilled and suitably qualified tree surgeon with experience of tree surgery techniques and associated operational equipment.

2nd one
Ideally you will have an arboriculture or forestry background, be able to display sound understanding of tree work operations and be keen to learn about the LV and HV networks. You will hold relevant NPTC qualifications or Lantra equivalents and be keen to expand your knowledge.

Stuff like this? http://www.nptc.org.uk/qualificationschemes.aspx?id=3

Look like they want experienced people so finding someone looking for a trainee is your best bet.

Your either going to need to fund some/lots of your own training or find someone willing to take you on as a trainee.

Also why cannock?

The college I work for, Warwickshire College, have all the sorts of qualifications on offer you need. Might be doable from Cannock...
I did my chainsaw certificate last year..

Arboricultures not really forestry. If you do want to work in forestry and its associated recreation/ ecological/ land mgt spheres Penrith is a good start but the FC also have ins in various guises/ roles across a breadth of subject areas and it's possible to move around depts and locations once you are in. All jobs get advertised internally first. The FC have been on a recruitment freeze for a few yrs due to govt cuts. Keep your eyes on the website and be prepared to take a job that gets you in and move. Training and support/ development is good once you're in.
