I am learning 2 songs on the bass at the mo, tears of a clown and China Grove by the Doobie brothers, as I love both songs! Also been messing around with Crossfire by Stevie Ray Vaughn (again on bass)

Beethoven pathetique sonata (been learning it for 17 or so years now, first movement is okay on a good day !)

Bartok 3 Hungarian Folk Songs ( 4 years so far - 2/3s good, last one needs faster /more accurate fingers )

Also on the piano is Debussy's Children's Corner, which I can produce a passable rendition of when I'm practicing enough to have the finger strength and speed.

I have decided to knuckle down and learn something that people will know instead of the pentatonic rubbish I play with some flourish 😀

So far I have
I love rock n roll
Beat it - minus solo naturally
Smooth Criminal
Rock bottom - just cos I love it
Crazy train

I might even learn some led zep FFS

Guitar FTW

I'm practising accents on the hihats...it's enough to want you stop making drummer jokes

I feel your pain 😉
Have you had a look at Jack Bennett's stuff at http://icanplaydrums.com/aboutus.htm ? Some interesting techniques, including a different way of doing accents on the hat

had a try out for a punk covers band tonight. I've only ever been in original material bands, so learning other people's songs is a bit of a challenge.

We tried:
I Wanna Be Sedated
God Save The Queen
Pretty Vacant*
White Riot
I Fought The Law
The Sound Of The Suburbs
and a few ska numbers

with the exception of one (*), I've never played any of these songs before, although they are all in my collection.
I've had 3 days to memorise these songs and they thought I was pretty good, considering; they offered me the gig 🙂

Hey! Well done John Drummer. That stuff is in your blood!!!

I'm currently learning...

Highway Star - Deep Purple
War Pigs - Black Sabbath
Holiday - Pistols
Whole Lotta Rosie - ACDC

..for the cover band I play in. Learning new stuff is always hard, but always worth it. Plus I think it gives you a better appreciation of the original artist.

The Entertainer by Scott Joplin. I think I used to be able to play it when I was 15!! The intervening 25 years have dulled the memory (and the finger speed)!!

I'm working on these Free classical guitar lessons on the internet given by Jean-François Delcamp http://www.delcamp.us/
(Professor at the Brest Conservatory of Music, Dance and Drama - France)
The lessons will begin in November 2010 and finish in June 2011.
The lessons correspond to the first three years at the conservatory and I've opted for the second year.
This is part of my last homework

on the acoustics...

man who sold the world (got it except for the transition to the chorus power chord bit that i can'nt seem to make sound ok)

wish you were here (at the stage where i can strum it, but when i try to sing as well it all goes t@tus up)

losing my religion (as above)

tangle up in blue (finishing touches)

next up is 'friday on my mind' and a bit of motorhead 'slow blues' i fancy. an i want to revisit 'blister in the sun' and 'like a hurricane'.

on the electric....

working through licklibrary electric blues dvd set. the struggle i find it getting my guitar/amp etc to sound the way i want it (i.e. more like the guy playing on the dvd).
