[Closed] What movie to watch on new surround sound system?
New speakers and amp getting delivered this week.
Just wondering what movie I should watch to test out the surround sound system.
Was thinking one of the original star wars, or some cheesy action flick?
Gladiator is great. But Star Wars should be good if the remastered version with improved sound (but not for the shite new effects they put in).
I saw XXX (the Vim Diesel film, not smut) as my first film on my surround sound system. Starts with a fight scene where the character who is meant to be James Bond (ie, old style spy) gets shot. The crack of the gun came from behind my head and I damn-near shat myself ๐
Transformers.
Behind Enemy Lines when the plane is getting shot down.
The beach scene in Saving Private Ryan would be pretty intense I imagine.
The D-Day scene in Saving Private Ryan.
Monaco GP (especially through the tunnels), in the 60's Grand Prix film.
Ditto the previous comments about Saving Private Ryan, well worth the effort, just be carefull not to have the volume too high.
+1 Transformers, is pretty good
I also like the Matrix, especially the building lobby gunfight scene and the helicopter falling down the building

+1
The Descent - it's a garbage film but with surround sound the noises are literally all over the place...
+2 Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down also makes good use of all the speakers
the intro to terminator 2 is good.
event horizon
band of brothers , episode where their pinned down in the forest is awesome
master and commander
First twenty minutes of Top Gun?
The shoot out in Heat following the bank robbery is awesome with the correct system set up, also, blackhawk down has me ducking as bullets whistle over head, another vote for transformers and saving private ryan too
it's got to be topgun
28 Days later, last 30min... chomp chomp chomp!
Def Black Hawk Down
+1 for Black Hawk Down
More votes for Black Hawk Down & the beach landing in Saving Private Ryan
The intro music on Air Force Once sounds great on 5.1 as well
another vote for the Beech scene from Saving Private Ryan
would also suggest Apocalypse Now, especially the opening credits where it sounds like a chopper is right in the room with you,and the ride of the Valkyrie attack sequence
LOTR - The Fellowship of The Ring, party scene near the beginning when the hobbits set off some of Gandalf's fireworks - especially the dragon one
If you have DTS, Top Gun......
And also LOTR Twin Towers (the extended version with the DTS track)
has the two sides of surroud - such as in the stables or Rohan - a horse whinnying over your shoulder, the tinkling of someone cleaning the leather over the other. the occasional shuffling of feet on the cobbles/straw.
ie. the gentler side of surround which make you feel more in the scene.
to the Battle of Helms Deep - when the rain starts hammering down on the armour
Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
Master and Commander
The Mummy
Apocalypto
Matrix Trilogy
Aliens
Jurassic Park (still good)
Independence Day (crap but the alien mother ship blowing up is the best subwoofer test ever!)
I watched Cloverfield (well, bits of it) a week or so ago down at the Artcoustic demo room, it was bloody brilliant!! Also bits of "The Island" that too was pretty damned good.
Same applies to John Mayer in concert DVD ... that was truly awesome!!
Jonathan
Apocalypse Now - saw that in a demo room once and it was electrifying
+1 for Event Horizon
Star Trek XI
Top Gun +1
Monster Inc. the chase scne near to the end with all of the doors
The Rock, Armageddon, Transformers, Bad Boys (see a theme here?)
Iron Man
Sunshine
Leon
Fifth Element
Die Hard
X Men
Predator...The scene when they all open up firing into the jungle.
Terminator2...When Arnie opens up on the cop cars below.
If you prefer something a bit more subtle - the bean throwing scene in House of the Flying Daggers or something like Toy Story or the Incredibles
iRobot?
Just saw Hurt Locker, that had some awesome sound! Great film too!
First one I watched with my new kit was SPR - my cat nearly shat itself and legged it out the room. Awesome...
matrix and saving ryan spring to mind.
general question to all- would you watch a crap film with good sound just so you can marvel at how good your set up is?
