google just throws up threads from years ago and wifes after a couple of new tyres for her nissan note.

cars not capable of any real speed, so no need for anything fancy-dancy, but equally i dont want her skidding off the road if she drives over a lolly wrapper.

im guessing mid-range for her would be around £50 a tyre would it from blackcircles say? or is that budget these days?
any other online places worth a look?

thanks

We've got Hankooks on our Kuga. Seems fine.

I found KwikFit cheaper than Black Circles recently. Ended up getting some Pirelli Cinturato P7 which were only slightly more expensive than "mid-range".

Kumho
Matador (stupid name, surprisingly good tyres - company owned by Continental).
Falken

Goodyear Efficientgrip have been my go-to mid-range tyre since my tyre fitting friend recommended them. They've transformed a couple of cars bought with cheap ditchfinders on.

Uniroyal Rainsports have also been seen on my wheels, but I think they're a bit higher up the price scale.

I really rate Vredstein tyres. Perform much better than the Goodyears they replaced (especially in the cold/wet), wear rate is very good, and the price is usually OK too. But they are all-season model tyres.

With that in mind, when recently fitting my girlfriends car with a new set, we ended up with Apollo tyres (all-season model, replacing Hankooks). Same company as Vredstein, but at a keener price. Only a few months old but are performing fine - currently dealing with snow and ice on the daily commute without any dramas.

Black Circles don't seem to be the cheapest these days. Buying online from Camskill and getting my local garage to fit them (tenner per corner) has worked out best for my last 3 purchases.

Kwik fit, book online, pretty much the same price as the likes of BC, less hassle.

I always go for a decent brand, only thing between me n the road.

Kumho

Yeah I've been buying these for years, massive range, just pick one with the right combo of noise/grip/efficiency to suit your taste, there's always a couple discounted on BlackCircles.

For something like that, if you're only going to be using one set of tyres, I wouldn't consider anything other than winter tyres. The difference they make for 6 months of the year is huge, whilst the actual downsides of using them during summer is going to be barely noticeable in a Nissan Note.

Unless of course you're based in Southern Spain..?

What size does her car need? Tyre sizes can make the costs vary wildly, even amongst brands and model.

Other than that, can highly recommend Uniroyal Rainsports, would be my tyre of choice if not spending the earth. Hankooks are generally good too, as are Avon, Kumho, Toyo, Maxxis, Vredestein etc. In fact, being honest, most of the recognised Ditchfinder brands have significantly upped their game over recent years too. The el cheapo things on my van have actually surprised me in that they're nothing like as bad as I was expecting them to be, having had bad experiences with some tyres on cars in the past...

50 quid might get you a decent tyre or a really shit one depending on the size you need...

Uniroyals in this spec are just over £40 each from camskill... Would be my choice anyway (or get local garage to price match).

Maxxis of course (MTB forum) got some great ones on my car, very good a weather grip for a 'summer tyre'.

I would simply have a look at the best tyre you can get with regard to fuel efficiency and wet grip, as indicated via the EU Tyre Label. Unless you are after something specific, and as long as you are comparing like-with-like (ie Summer against Summer), branding is more vanity than anything else.

I went with the BlackCircles Quality Choice option in my size. Nothing else came close for the price with regard to Fuel Efficiency and Wet Grip. To buy an equivalent Continental or Michelin would have cost 3 times the price.

Wouldn't recommend Maxxis unless you are a low mileage user as they only seem to last about 8,000 miles on my son's car, great grip but wear is excessive. Avon's are a very underrated tyre in my opinion.
