A bee-fly of some description, maybe a dark edge
With those legs, I thought some sort of pond skater.
Yup, some flavour of bee fly. I love watching them zip around the garden. They are important pollinators and wholly harmless unless you are a grub when they might lay an egg in you. Nice.

Yup,it's a bee fly.
We have had lots in the garden and had never seen/noticed them before.
Cool wee things the way they hover around.
I found a harlequin ladybird larva in our garden this week - first sighting for me
