By lightweight I mean one of those low down ones that can be folded up and put in a rucksack. Preferably with legs that don't dig into the ground. Doesn't particularly matter if my bum is on the floor.

Is this for when your new motor has run out of charge and you're waiting for the AA man ??

are you camping? If you've got a slim thermarest/airmat, you can get frames that convert it into a seatpad with a backrest. straps, fabric and a few bits of lightweight ally pole.

but for minimalist comfort, you can't beat one of these:

https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15979233/multimat-compact-kumfie-sit-mat-15979233

Warm, takes the edge off sitting on rocks/gravel, keeps your bum dry on wet ground/grass. weighs nothing.

^^ That Go Outdoors mat is what we use, but a home a made version. I've cut sections of roll mat to the same shape as the inside of our rucksacs. They live in there until required.

We have these (may now be using a cheaper version of but one we had a while ago was outwell branded) for sitting on the beach. Sort of centimetre thick mat with sticks to stiffen on the sides and straps to hold the two parts at an angle. Works fine and is lightweight.

I think the idea is similar to the old thermarest chair which was just the sticks and a couple of straps and you insert you thermarest for the padding. Lighter and easier to carry if back / bike packing.

I have the Trekology chair, not the lightest at just under 1kg but well made.

The Helinox ones are ace, but very expensive. I've used one of the small ones for marshalling and cafe relaxation. But they really are spendy.

We got the Aldi Helinox rip-offs last year. Good for £18

They may do them again I guess but looks like a few similar options linked above. Decathlon do one too.

Just checked out the decathlon one - it's very low to the ground (seat height of 25 cm vs 39 cm for the Trekology). £30.

Of course, I did think of simply sitting on a mat..... However the attraction of an actual chair is being able to recline.

We have a chair similar to this in unfolded proportions but a different design:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/1ABOVE-Lightweight-Foldable-Portable-Festivals/dp/B0918K6MMB/ref=sr_1_18_sspa?_encoding=UTF8&c=ts&dchild=1&keywords=Camping+Chairs&qid=1618934698&s=camping-hiking&sr=1-18-spons&ts_id=3076457031&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE1UUIyNEhTQTBJNEEmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAwMTg1NDUySkFWSTIxWlRXWjdBJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAzMDk3NTEzUzFJMERHS1paQkE5JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmX25leHQmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

Which is great but the one we have folds flat rather than into a shape that can be put into a rucksack. One's bum is actually on the floor but this is ok.

I have a helinox two legged ones and a couple of aldi knock offs of the four legged one. The latter lives in the van, pack down small, easily fit in a rucksack, and great for when we need a chair

I’ve got a Helinox and a Alite Mayfly and the Alite is much better:

I’ve literally been looking at the same this week, for the van. We are a bit short of space. Was looking at the Helinox but slightly put off by the low seat height (and the cost). The Trekology ones look ok.

I’ve ordered thermarest trekker chair on basis I’ll have my sleep mat with me so use it rather than extra space and weight. £32 seemed best price I could find.

Looked in the beach bag and a couple of ours are Eurohike and hence cost half the Outwell at £11 from gooutdoors as long as you like red or black.

Vango also seem to have gone full value engineering on the Helinox chair by making a similar one with steel legs. Bit heavier but a quarter of the price.

If you want really light but reclineable in, the Alite Monarch (which I have) is great. It requires a little more attention while seated but is very comfortable.
