I guess I might be lucky with where I live but whenever I go away from home for a few days/holiday etc there's always one view that tells me I'm nearly home...
Got me thinking, what do you guys have (landmarks etc) to let you know you're nearly there?
Here's mine:

Ballachulish bridge does it for me.
The Pap of Glencoe.
Didcot power station!

Glastonbury Tor does it every time . Dad was always the same
Emley Moor Mast.
Like Rich Penny:Stonehenge. As I drive west past it, I suddenly feel I've crossed a hidden boundary and am back in the South West.
Another one for the Pap of Glencoe ...seen from Kinlochleven
Heading south after coming off the A30 at Whiddon Down there is a great view of East Dartmoor (Kes Tor, Meldon etc) which opens up as the road drops down into the Teign valley. Always a genuine heart in mouth moment after I've been away.
If coming from down south, the RAC building at the M6 / M5 interchange, coming from north, Forton Services.

Hoad Monument for me!
Strange looking people!
The mast on Winter Hill from the M6 / M62 lets me know I'm back in the North West.
Heading down the A3 as you hit the bottom just over the brow of the bridge as the road merges with the M27, all that appears before you and your eyes is Langstone Harbour in full beauty.
Then I'm home,
When the kids were young there was always the "are we home yet?" question.
So we developed their recognition of landmarks and ended up with water towers being the key feature of knowing how far it was to go. The kids took ownership of them by giving them names. We still refer to them like this 20 years later .
From the south Angel of The North. When they built it that was their claim and I had my doubts but once the nearby trees matured it is dramatic as you come around the corner to see it.
The rain. Doesn't matter where you're coming from, once you hit the Basque Country it's raining.
Kronos, we're from the same laal town.
Turning round the Surprise View and seeing the whole Hope Valley ahead.
Clouds on the horizon that aren't clouds.
Those balloons could be going anywhere tho 🙄
Didn't think I'd get this many responses.... Makes me think I need to see more of this Green and pleasant land
I don't know where to call "home" any more. Current abode is temporary.
Nice pic of Stonehenge, I rode past there last week and every time I'm blown away. Then went across to Normanton Down with its huge number of tumuli. Love that landscape. 8)
From the south - Emley Moor Mast.
From the north - Almscliffe Crag
From the west - Scammonden dam
Stood at that bus stop hundreds of times Ernie....now in much greener Devon.
weeksy
Didcot power station!
I was going to say the same thing! Have you joined the "save the cooling towers" group yet?? 😉
(My mum was telling my she remembers all the fuss that kicked up in the late 1970's when they released the plans for the site, now we've all become used to them, and i think i will miss them when they are gone....... Humans are funny like that aren't we)
For the last few years this has been my "nearly home" beacon:
I know we moan at living in the Uk sometimes, but wow, this thread just shows, we do really have some of the most amazing natural and manmade landscape! Que the Elgar and lets line up some Pomp & Circumstance 😉
That massive Welsh flag flying in front of the Celtic Manor you can see from the M4 heading West. I just know the sun will start shinig after I see that.
😀

Some lovely landscapes images and obviously one of us doesn't take his other half away with him or perhaps a predetermined distance from home Mrs Wobbem is told "It's that point in the journey dear - show me your boobs..."
My 'landmark' is when I hear a Brummie accent. Some people hate it, but for me it says I am home again and is wonderful!
Home is where the heart is............ 😀

really? no one? maybe you are all too mature for me. well if i must!
.... my house?
This:
My Dad told me as a kid, they buried the dead for the Battle of Worcester their and when it rained, the water running off the hill turned red!
So now I have kids myself it only seems fair to pass on my Dad's knowledge 😉
You can see it going North on the M5, just off J7, always makes me feel I am home when I see it.
