i would get a bluetooth headset for a mobile phone, and a bluetooth dongle for the computer.
then i could wander/fettle bikes within a few meters, while chatting to whoever.

nice idea Olly. probably not the cheapest options though. But, I've probably got an old BT headset kicking about.
