[#13535728]

So, after a few years away from here, I've taken the plunge.  Can anyone summarise the last few years of the forum, please - I don't really have time to properly catch up? 😆

Whatever size your wheels are, they're now too small.

Used to be that any post over an hour would drop to page 2. It's now anything over a day.

Other than that, not much has changed.

Ebikes rule. Ebikers are n*bbers. Ebikes are too powerful.

I think that's the summary.

There have been numerous attempts to totally break the functionality of the forum with upgrades but no matter how hard they try they still can't stop it working on Drac's iPad.

The forum has been upgraded over the last year which has resulted in it becoming borderline unusable initially due to the slowness, then the adverts covering everything up and then because it feels like usage has dropped off a cliff. If you managed to tear yourself away a first time I'd do it again - I'm only here as its marginally more interesting than work at the minute...

I came back too! Welcome back!

As above, it doesn’t seem as busy as it used to and there’s more of a ‘thing’ about advertising vs subscription but there’s still some really good positive vibes around and that unique stw sense of humour.

Oh and we still like bikes. A lot.

It's a bit like the Mohave Desert Stretch on route 66 just now, a wee bit quiet to say the least

Other than that everything is like my favourite David Bowie album growing up Hunky Dory

Unfortunately its not the place it used to be. Staff have left, users have left and those users that are still here are actively encouraged to leave by making the forum as horrible to use as possible.

Don't mention Morrissey if you wish to have a pleasant time on here. The angry brigade will allow you to listen to the Smiths though.

A few upgrades on the site have had improvements for some and problems for others...ocean skipper posts a semi regular update informing someone that he isn't paying for a subscription...

Mountain bikes are great but gravel and electric bikes seem to be more popular.

The world keeps turning and climate change is real, but apparently isn't something we should bother about as Trump is going to do something to someone as it will actually be them that has caused all the raw sewage to pollute the English Channel and rivers.

There is a bargain objects thread that tends to have a lot of decent kit going cheap...always worth a read.

Morrissey is the angry brigade, surely. As for the site,  the owners seem happy with it so it's up to us how much we bother to browse or post.

That’s true of anything that’s online now, and STW has the least issues with ads compared to other places I use, where entire blocks of text are obscured by huge adverts that are impossible to remove.

I’m not subscribing to every random news source just to read one item on some equally random subject, especially when they’re asking for money, I’d probably be paying a significant amount of my pension every month!

I do have a subscription to STW, though.

I can relate.  I'm in the Alps so the ebike gets used a lot for big days out or quick afterworks but I got the gravel bike out for the first time in ages and am really quite enjoying it too.  I have far too many bikes and seem to spend at least as much time spannering as riding as a result.  Add two bikes for the kids and there are 8 bikes in our house 😆.  And that's just those that get any sort of riding.  There are outgrown bikes too... 🤦🏻‍♂️

Only 8, that's like having only 3 T-shirts and 2 pairs of pants.

He's a ****.

But that's not a STW thing, the reasons why Morrissey is problematic is readily googleable.  You can start with him being xenophobic and an apologist for (alleged) sex offenders.

How can Morrissey be xenophobic when his biggest fan base is Mexican people?
