This is likely to be the most we get down here in North Wiltshire, it’ll probably be gone by lunchtime.

Taken at 02.35.

Spent friday shifting the 50cm that had built up in the drive and on the path to the house, then drove in to Stockgolm on E4 in 40kt gusts and drifting snow, which was.... interesting. I'd decided to stay in town that night instead of coming back and going back in and was glad I did. Snbow turns E4 and, more importantly, Stockholm into a madhouse as all the SUVs suddenly have snow and people lose their minds, either driving everywhere at 40kph or 140kph (depending on their level of stupidity).

Made it out on Saturday night ok, but still gusty and, despite the work of the local guys and their snowploughs, the small roads near me were drifiting up in the wind.

Sunday: More snow clearing.

Monday: FINALLY a drop in the wind and clear skies. It's now -12c and I am contemplating getting the XC skis down for tomorrow lunchtime, but I need to check if the local sports club have put tracks down up at the circuit first. Just for a change, I might go and clear some more snow. LOVE clearing snow, LOVE IT.

Anyone within 30 odd miles of Birmingham care to comment on the current weather ? 7pm Thurs and an awful lot of red on the google maps traffic speed page

We're battened down - not voluntarily I might add but Derbyshire County Council have shut Woodhead and Snake Passes as well as all the high roads around Buxton (Cat & Fiddle, Axe Edge etc), Network Rail have shut everything along the Hope Valley line and everything south of Hazel Grove on the Buxton line.

Having said that, there's an impressive swirl of weather on the rain radar app which is pretty much at the door now. I've been WFH all week and today has been a spate of warnings on the all-staff Teams channel saying "please WFH, do not travel, we will understand if you need to work flexibly due to schools being closed" etc. Which is cool, they are very supportive and it's nice to see that trust and flexibility.

I have a flood warning for 2 am . Fitted my temporary air brick covers and moved the car up the driveway to higher ground. Charged the torches and run the Ch to warm up the fabric if the power drops out

Son in Rugby says they've had a load of snow.

The Ilson Alps now have a thin covering

Went out for a wander in Chesterfield. Snowy is coming down and settling but I'm expecting it to be slush by tomorrow morning.

No snow, frost or wind on the northern boundary of greater Manchester. Little bit of rain. Reasonable bike commuting weather for this time of year.

Few inches here in Dudley/Wolves, seems like it's already on the thaw though...paths in the woods on this morning's dog walk are already slushy from the trees.

Few trees down, smaller ones mostly...

None (or almost none) on the south eastern flank either, it's just wet and grey. Peak District webcams show Buxton, Leek etc have a bit of snow but it's slushy enough that the roads seem mostly clear.

Colleagues over the other side of the Peak (Derby, Chesterfield etc) are saying it's quite heavy over there.

My Dad phoned earlier to check if I was still alive / buried by snowdrifts / stranded from civilisation. He seemed quite put out when I said we had the merest sprinkling of snow.

Then it turned into a a "back in my day" rant because everything around him is completely shut down - no buses, trains, schools are closed etc - and he was complaining that when he was at school you just got up and walked there. No question that they'd be shut or that the shops would close or the buses would stop running.

I'm not sure he's grasped the concept of more up to date health and safety legislation...

Then when we got there in Rubery in the mid 60s only the headmaster and a couple of teachers had managed to get in so the assembly went on until a few more teachers turned up, then classes got put together for gym until break when all hell let loose with snowball fights, monster snow balls, igloos and improvised slides on the path into the school (which lasted the week because no grit or salt was used). And all that in shorts, a pull over, a blazer and knitted mittens if you were lucky. Best school days of my life. At the weekend we went up the Lickys. One day I had my feet strapped into some other kid's skis and shuffled about - a vocation was born.

Lolz at Mirror headlines...

That said, next Tuesday evening onwards may be a little wild again, with snow forecast for the usual places.

Had several days of +1 or +2 and a lot of the snow has gone. Some ice now (dropped to -1) but I needs more snö so I can get the local XC tracks back in service.

Quite a lot of patches left after a wee bit fell overnight. Windfarm trails were sticky slow.

I drove home over the local 'mountain road' yesterday evening. Proper couple of inches of snow and some ice...
