If one wanted to backup some commercial DVDs to .avi format, hypothetically speaking, of course, what app would one use?
It would have to be free, with no spyware, and work on XP.

DVD shrink will rip protected dvds
Super seems to encode to all sorts of formats.

'goodfreind' seems to have some product he's promoting- see post below - not sure how kosher it is though...

You may need to do it in two steps. DVDDecrypter will give you an unencrypted folder that you can then convert to avi or whatever.
