Need to get a better handle on my eating habits and considering trying one of these. Are any of them any good?
I have previously used MyFitnessPal. Seemed to work well
Garmin seem to be offering some.sort.of calories counter thing just now...no idea if it an attempt to get more.people.on Connect+, but if you are a Garmin user it.might be of interest (although you can connect your Garmin to your MyFitnessPal to track all that as well, so no real need for the Garmin one if you have both already.
Assuming you are a Garmin user, if no, MyFitnessPal is apparently decent.
I was using it but didn't shift any weight at all...I need to get back into it I think.
Also currently using MyFitnessPal and happy with it
My fitness pal has been helpful for the last 7 years. It has helped me lose weight when I've been disciplined enough to put my weight in and my food.
I use FatSecret app. Its a no nonsense free app. Scan the bar code or type in what food is, add the weight .. its gives calories and what protein/carb/fat/fibre etc is.
Works well enough, and keeps me keeping tabs what i`m eating. 109kg 1st January .. 105.5kg on Monday. Aim is to get down to 94kg by July

Does MyFitnessPal allow you to just scan barcodes? I'm all for making it easy.

@MoreCashThanDash yes the phone app will do that for you.
Only if you pay.
I can scan on MFP and I'm just a free user, not paid. Have had my account a few years though.
It may be a recent feature removal then. It wants me to pay.

nope, also a free user and scanning barcodes.
Bollocks to calories, just cut the carbs
I'm using an app called Cronometer at the moment. Basically all the functionality of the paid MyFitnessPal except you dont have to pay. There is a premium version which you can pay for, but I've never seen any value in it.
One of the big plus-sides for me with Cronometer is that if the food you have scanned isn't on the app, then you can scan the front of the packaging and the nutrition label on the back and it'll be added to the apps database.
I used MyFitnessPal (MFP) with good results years ago, needed to shift some weight recently and went back to MFP and found it bloated with ads post the buyout, I tried some of the other apps but they weren't as slick as I remembered MFP working.
I decided to take the punt on the MFP free trial and if it was okay paying the £79.99 for the year. The app for me worked so much better without the ads and I've now paid the premium fee. Yes £79.99 isn't free, but compared to buying mountain parts its about the cost of a new chain or for those non riders and good pair of shoes these days!
I too use MFP. I like the setting (you need to turn it on as it's off by default) where it adjusts your calories for the day by the exercise you have actually achieved rather than just the basic estimates of activity level you put at the beginning.
Bollocks to calories, just cut the carbs
Everything in moderation. Yes, there is way more energy hidden in pasta and spuds than most people appreciate but I predict a lot of the gullible muppets that have gone full keto on the back of social media pseudo science are going to be fisted hard in later life.
Where do you find that setting and is it available on free account? Although if I'm trying to shift weight the burning more calories is probably better so probably don't want to add any exercise calorie loss to my daily intake.
