Rather than buy a large cumbersome full tent, I think I'd like something to compliment a normal 3 man tent. A shelter from the rain, with removable side panels and decent ground sheet that can be used as a gazebo in the summer for bbqs etc and then when needed become a full larger shelter when camping.
any great ideas?
We use one of these at shows.

Good in the wind and 4.5x4.5m footprint.
yeah we used one of those coleman ones at mayhem this weekend. quick & easy to put up, not massivly bulky and you can buy full sides & a door if it's tipping down.
That looks exactly like the kind of thing I was thinking off. Possibly something with a better water proof capacity. 450mm hydrostatic head isn't huge is it? Although I guess it all starts getting expensive then.
I'm only after more waterproofness (is that a word?) after the shocking deluge we were subjected to in Lake Annecy last week! our 2000mm Blacks 3 man head held out, but I suspect one of those coleman shelters may have produced a fine mist in the air!
