The resisted using the illustrative statistical benchmark of "an area the size of Wales"

Interestingly......

They used the 747, "used to be the biggest passenger plane in the world", because francly us europeans are now better 🙂

Lots of anti big government, medicare and pension ranting, allong with the implication that soon we'll be as bad as Europe etc. And for bonus points, it mentions Jesus. I'm guessing the website has more than a little to do with the republicans/T-party?

On a side note: Why is everyone saying Spains going to go bust? Their debt is about 60% GDP, tiny compared to a lot of countries?

Fairly pointless though, isn't it? We all know it's a lot of money.

The point is in the title of the website, surely? 'A visualisation of US Debt'

If you spent $1 million a day since Jesus was born, you would have not spent $1 trillion by now...but ~$700 billion- same amount the banks got during bailout.

nice use of a stat and Jesus and a good percpective in just how much we have helped out banks whilst making sure we cannot subsidise inefficient manufacturing which I would imagine supports more jobs

2006/07 I had a ringside seat at the beginning of the credit crunch, I remember one of our economists being asked by a client what the impact of the US national debt and housing slump could be.

At the rate Edinburgh is going, its beginning to look like one tram shunting up and down about 10 metres of track 😕

Except the US empire is not really like previous ones. In the past, people spent money to keep other countries under their control. Now, other countries pay the US.

Very nicely done.

I also quite like this look at the US Federal budget... Death and Taxes

I find the amounts of cash involved completely inconceivable.

If its not measured in double decker buses or blue whales it doesn't count

Those, plus football pitches, the Isle of Wight and Wales for units of area.

That is capitalisms great secret, it is not real. It just works on the convidence that you will pay back this debt that really we all know you will never actually pay back.
