[#7602518]

I may be having a minor lifestyle change shortly, hopefully reclaiming evenings from long hours in the office and commuting. I'm just coming to the realisation that I'm not sure what to do with them though (pre-clocks changing at least, after that I'll be out biking, kayaking or walking šŸ˜€ ).

Other than catching up on teh last 10 years box sets or lookign at STW, I need inspiration (for me and the missus). What enlightening things do you get up to on dark evenings?*

Come in from work.
Have dinner.
Read stories.
Put kids to bed.
Go downstairs.
Go back upstairs.
Put kids to bed again.
Get glass of water for kids.
Put kids to bed again.
Get special teddy for kids.
Put kids to bed again.
Go downstairs.
Go back upstairs and shout at kids.
Give up and go to bed.

Sometimes we throw in a little housework just to keep things interesting.

Monday - Tai Chi with mum
Tuesday - swimming with daughter
Wednesday - kickboxing with son
Thursday - nothing every week, but if there are ever school governor meetings we arrange for Thursday
Friday - daughter at youth club, I'm taxi
Saturday - son's football training
Sunday - son's football match

I try and fit in 4/5 gym sessions a week, work maybe a couple of hours each day before/after the office.

Have a puppy, a wife that works shifts...and just started a college course.

I long for quiet evenings šŸ™

Try to get two very small children to bed, feed ourselves and collapse... And one night a week I usually go MTBing. Forget the clocks, buy some lights!

Ferrying my kids to their various social activities.
Coach a football team for 6 year olds - including the youngest panthercub.
Cross trainer / Sky go boxsets.
Home maintenance.
Drink coffee / eat cakes.

......sometimes, in the very height of summer, if the gods are looking favourably upon me and all the circumstances are fortuitously aligned, i'll ride a bike. Sometimes.

Do homework with the boys
feed the animals*

*boys

wait for Mrs Stoner to get home
usually pop out to the local for some social time (I work from home, it's my only interaction with real humans older than 9) for a couple of pints.

A few nights a week I go to Archery.

When the trails arent utter gloopy nastiness I go out on the bike and come back via the pub.

GrahamS pretty much on the mark there. Add in helping with homework and crashing in front of TV like a sloth and thats it.

I may be the wrong person to answer here as my commute is long as are my working hours but as a start point:
Turbo sessions - Mainly 30 minute HIIT sets.
Gym - The wife mainly, but me occasionally.
Cooking - Having time to make and prepare interesting food is awesome.
Riding - My bike, buy some lights if you need to.

Chill out and relax after hectic days at work, may pour myself a JD and coke or two.

Play computer games, surf the web/youtube. Never watch TV.
My commute 2-3 days a week is 16 mile round trip a day on the bike.

Wednesdays is cinema night (I love it as it breaks the week up) go with my cus every week gives her a rest from her teenage daughter, we have a beer and a chat watch a film, nice evening.

Yes I know I have no kids, but my job is pretty physical most days and quiet stressful.

Right, I should have set the background a bit better here!

Kids are 17 and 20, we usually go to bed before them, if they are in! Not much ferrying required as oldest one drives (and doesnt drink), youngest is learning. And oldest owes us more than a few ferries of her own!

So actually some actual free time to do grown up stuff for the first time in 20 years! Except ballroom dancing. I'm like a duck with two left paddles.

Exactly same situation as you OP - last week I've gone form commuting 160 miles a day, to 9.

Currently just faffing about in evening, going to gym more and getting bored at 8pm. Come lighter nights I'll be able to crack on with house jobs more and spend some evenings down allotment, so looking forward to that.

Do you live in the suburbs?

monday - spin class
Tuesday - spin class
Wednesday - spin class followed by band practice
Thursday - band practice
Friday - spin class followed by beer

That's the plan, anyway.... Usually just manage Tuesday & Wednesday spin classes.

Home by 6.15. Supper. Upstairs for a wash and clean teeth, which deters me from snacking later. Change. Watch Michael Portaloo on his train journey. Out to the garage and fettle something on the bike, ready for the next ride. Bed at 10.00.

Home, grab the dogs, go meet OH at the yard, see to four horses (occasionally riding) whilst the dogs exercise themselves by running around daft, home again, food, bit of tv, sleep. Repeat until the weekend!

In the summer I get in a few evening rides a week as the horses are out 24/7 so no stables to see to.

Cycle back home
Light the fire
cook dinner
eat dinner

Go to bed

Mainly spend time sat at computer all evening and trying not to get too annoyed with whatever other half is watching on tv or people in flat above. Currently learning to touch type properly, finding it strangely addictive. Couple of weeks ago it was re-learning basic maths on Khan Academy, will return to that at some point. Actually the reason I'm learning to touch type properly is when I got my new PC I decided I needed a proper keyboard with Cherry switches (brown). Oh and blank keys. So last week when I was setting up Kerberos authenticated NFS shares on the NAS and used a password that I couldn't actually type without seeing the individual charactersm hence using gtypist for touch typing tutorials.

Learning Linux will suck up time like the tardis crossed with a vacuum cleaner if you're that way inclined. Specifically Arch Linux on desktop PC and Debian (arm) on NAS.

Take work home when I get deadline coz I can't be arsed to do it at work place due to too many people eating, noisy and nosy ...
Watch old dramas from the 70s or 80s like Sherlock Holmes or some obscure shite.
Smoke me tobacco pipe with a shot of whiskey/rum or now non-alcoholic malt ... then clean tobacco pipe after smoking it ... then admire all me tobacco pipes.
Nothing good on telly then I shall be on STW telling the lefties they are wrong. Yes, lefties are wrong. Yes, you are.
