[Closed] What do we think about Dominic Raab's vile comments?

Speaking on talkRadio on Thursday, Raab was asked whether he would adopt the pose. He replied: “Do you know what? I understand this sense of frustration, of restlessness, which is driving the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I’ve got say, on this take the knee thing – which, I don’t know, maybe it’s got a broader history but it seems to be taken from the Game of Thrones – feels to me like a symbol of subjugation and subordination, rather than one of liberation and emancipation. But I understand people feel differently about it, so it’s a matter of personal choice.”

Don't get me wrong, I'm the first to get frothed up about Tory MPs being out of order....
But I completely fail to see what the problem is here....

Intentionally vile or just ignorant. I tend to think the latter.

Well, he’s outed himself as massively ignorant. But it’s offensive because he is trivialising something others feel is important from his position of superiority as a member of the white ruling elite.

It’s just a sign of how out of touch these people are with each other.

Pretending to be ignorant, to appeal to people who like that kind of thing (and there are many).

Ignorance.
On a subject which has dominated the news agenda and will continue to be hugely important he, as a leading member of the gov, should have informed himself when this first blew up.

He’s breaking rule number one. Conversely if I ever met the Queen I wouldn’t bow or take a knee.

This article may help explain why it has caused offence.

Active ignorance.

Like the people who love telling you they’ve never heard of the thing/person a massive group of people love.

Google "Colin Kaepernick." It's nothing to do with either Game of Thones or royal subservience in this context.

Which I wouldn't necessarily expect everyone to know, such as the OP, but doesn't Raab employ advisors?

Yeah i hadn't really looked at it from the perspective that he is an MP in the public eye and so has a certain expectation of standards to meet.

Does it count if I've never ever seen Game of Thrones?

This resurfaced today, I wouldn't be so sure about ignorance

Interesting that seeing the video it comes across quite differently to me than when I read it. I think I subconsciously imbued it with a different vibe when I read it.

Seeing the video makes me less likely to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Much more flippant.
Thanks

He's not just an MP, he's the foreign secretary. It's literally his job to know stuff like this, and I find I hard to believe he doesn't.

What had Boris done in the preceding couple of days that required a senior minister to play the ****er to take over the news?

He's foreign secretary, first secretary of state, and deputised for Boris Johnston as prime minister when he was hospitalised. And his entire qualification for that, literally the only reason he was in either of those positions, was that he was and remains a leading teller of lies about Brexit. That's it.

So these comments shouldn't surprise anyone, and certainly shouldn't lower anyone's opinion of this tortoise on a fencepost.

Let’s not forget that this is the man who, as Brexit Minister, was genuinely shocked to learn that as an island we’re quite heavily dependent on the channel ports for trade.

He’s as thick as *ing mince and possesses the emotional intelligence of a potato. He makes Priti Patel look both sharp and humane

And the * always looks like he’s just been interrupted while cutting a body up in his bath

God, I despise these six-toed-pony-****ers!

Its worse than ignorance.  Its not possible for him not to know whats going on, so to trivialise it to a fictional tv program is utterly contemptuous.

But but but he does karate and stuff. He's scared of nowt, apart from logic, empathy, compassion, poor people, minorities, disabled people, foreigners, decision making etc. Etc.

I'd love to meet him in a dark alleyway ......

He's deliberately courting controversy & stoking the culture war

Johnson has been an abysmal failure as PM , his mishandling of COVID will go down in history- today's contact tracing app farce another all to predictable blunder.

The only way the Tories keep their base on side is to keep the phony culture war going.

They couldn't give 2 shits about the damage it does to the country

The answer is in the title, vile. It's like all that boxing has gone to his head. Google "boxers personality disorders".

No, I know what this threads opinion on it is, but it's hard to see facts on here because of the rabid left wing posting.

I'm struggling to see what's vile about him expressing his opinion, which , to plenty, would have merit.

As someone alluded to - it’s to distract us from what?

It has added advantage of playing to their “base”

They simply can’t ****ing lose!

rabid left wing posting

Is that the only option other than staying deliberately ignorant? Surely it would take you 10 minutes of google searching and reading to educate yourself?

Too simple to use the quote button that's right there ^ when you click reply? Explains your previous posts on this thread.

You’d only struggle to see what’s vile about it, or think that opinion had any merit if you possess the cultural sensitivity of a house brick. It’s pure and simple pig ignorance.

Also said he hasn’t read the Russia report! ffs

Shortly before he admitted he hadn’t actually read it, he had assured everyone that it contained nothing incriminating that anyone should be concerned about.

The bloke is a moron

brads - see my post near the top of the page.
Inconceivable to think he didn't know the origin of taking a knee; it pre-dates Colin Kaepernick by decades.
It's a sign of respect and is associated with the military showing respect to dead comrades; now closely tied to BLM.
But let's suspend belief for a moment - raab, as a senior member of the clown circus, should have informed himself about the gesture, it's origins and it's present relevance.
If you didn't know the meaning, wouldn't you look it up - out if idle curiosity if nothing else - as it was wall-to-wall for more than two weeks in the media?
No right thinking person will believe he didn't know.
It's dog whistle politics of the lowest order.

It would, if I was arguing that many agreeing with me is evidence that I'm right.

Are you going try a bit harder?

To be fair to Brads it's quite difficult to see the buttons and to have empathy when engaged in vigorous onanistic activities

The more I think about this, the more I understand it’s not ignorance. It’s deliberate. Urgh.

I think you’re hugely understanding just how thick Dominic Raab actually is.

In the present cabinet stuffed with complete imbeciles, he stands out as a shining beacon of ignorance

Never forget this

Raab’s ignorance of Dover Calais stuns critics

When it comes to truly breathtaking cluelessness, our own Poundland Patrick Bateman has serious form

Google “Colin Kaepernick.” It’s nothing to do with either Game of Thones or royal subservience in this context.

You see, I think it depends where you drop in to the recent history of the gesture. You think he is completely ignorant and believe he has never heard of KP. Or you think he is discussing where KP got it from. I instinctively thought the latter because to my mind that is almost impossible for him not to be aware of Kaepernick but some clearly thought the former.

Kaepernick used it as an alternative form of deference to the flag and the anthem. Setting aside the quite frankly bizarre and butt clenchingly cringe making habit to British eyes of the yanks need to genuflect to a flag and tune at every available opportunity it was a symbol of subversive deference. But to me using it when no deference is expected does look weird.

I went to school with him. He was an arrogant, entitled self serving dick then. In hindsight he had all the qualifications to be a Tory

I think no better or worse of him than I did before. I just think he and his colleagues have sunk to a point where I don't have the energy to actively add to my distaste for the dog whistle politics and the complete disdain for the well-being of the electorate.

I cannot honestly work out if he is that ignorant/ill informed, playing some weird psycho-political mind trick, a bit of both or he is voicing something far worse.

I don't want to waste my energy on that kind of behaviour is rather use it to do something positive.

This government has a sole purpose, they are hell bent on a hard brexit regardless of the costs to the health of the nation and social cohesion. How this dovetails with their levels of ignorance or general malfeasance is irrelevant. This is the road were on and its only gojng to get bumpier.

The government is gambling with the BLM issue in much the same way as they're gambling with Covid. They like the protests to the extent that it offers a distraction, both to their Brexit intentions and their incompetent handling of the pandemic.

The same strategy will produce the same outcomes. Covid exploded due to negligence, ignorance and a failed strategy, the racism issue will do the same. The government think they can contain it. They can't and they won't.

Ok for all the self rightous ****s, the reply option does not work for me so try and be less pricklike.

As for Ransos, your link stated that lots of people agreeing with someone does not make it fact, which kinda is what your saying as well no?
Explain why that doesn't work both ways, and try and be less small man about it would you.

Why is anyone bothering to argue with brads? He's already called you all 'rabid left wingers' for your middle-of-the-road opinions.

If brad ever does come across a left winger I fear for his health.
