What could you fit in a bucket?

My husband’s local hardware store is doing a Black Friday thing that actually sounds like fun. For two hours only, shoppers will get 50% off anything they can fit in a bucket. 1 bucket only per customer. This feels like the kind of promotion we could all enjoy.

What would you put in your bucket? My thoughts are:

  • gardening gloves
  • star headed screws (I need some)
  • selection of Knipex
  • Allen key set (I need one)
  • selection of drill bits and jigsaw blades (always need more, they go blunt)
  • Duct tape (forever useful)

'Stanley' knife blades

Maybe some gorilla tape or similar.

Whatever you get, it'll never be the thing that you actually need when it comes to doing some DIY and you'll have to go & get more. Or is that just me?

I thought I'd bought a bargain wooden bucket off Ali Express, but when it arrived it was just a pail imitation.

Another identical bucket.

But probably lots of nuts, bolts and washers.  Plus maybe some spanners and socket sets.

Loose screws, nails and bolts, not only a good value way of completely filling the bucket but useful too. Sorting them will be a good way of filling these dark evenings and keep “my mind active”.

I know it's not relevant to this discussion, but a workmate once told me her parents got so fed up with her and her siblings bringing back enormous branches, dozens of pine cones and so on from walks that they instituted a shopping bag rule: if it could fit in a supermarket carrier bag, they could bring it home.

Her brother found a half-rotted sheep's head on the next walk. It fitted in the bag.

Nothing really to add, but I would say that some friends gave us a housewarming present of one of those multipacks of thousands of screws when we moved house ten years ago, and it was just the best thing ever. We used them up years ago. So: big multipacks of screws.

A handful of 10mm sockets and a couple more 10mm spanners for a start; I can never find one when I need one. After that, a couple of pairs of well fitting Mechanix gloves, some decent work gloves maybe, a set of screwdrivers. Oddly I actually need a decent bucket, so can I keep the bucket?

Picture hooks

Glue

Thread lock

If it was my hardware store which is also an irrigators co-op I'd be getting some rural pipe fittings, brass nozzles and other small bu expensive consumables.

I assume we're talking a 0.5m3 bucket?

I work in a hardware store (we also sell booze) and we currently have a “win the window” promotion and raffle being drawn on Monday. Originally, we were using it to get rid of dead stock, shop soiled stuff that was just getting in the way but we contacted a few suppliers for donations - including bottles of whisky, garden furniture, binoculars, lots of tools. We piled it up and estimate the value at £2.2k plus we have 3 other runner’s up prizes. We’ve sold over £1500 worth of tickets already and all proceeds go to the upkeep of the island’s helipad.
We still have a big pile of shite out the back.

Screws. Router and drill bits. Spare battery or two for Makita cordless. Bar oil.

Actually, scrub that lot. If I can somehow fit poverty, hunger, greed, plague and pestilence, violence, homelessness etc in there will they get halved?

Nothing  they're trying to get you to buy crap you don't need and wont use. Put the money in a Salvation army bucket instead.
