Really need to buy a new camera
Have naff all to spend really. Have just managed to secure 9 days work over the next couple of weeks, so hopefully will be able to spare £100 to finally sort out a new camera after that. I'd love a good 2nd hand SLR, but to be honest, that's probably too much of an ask for the budget and not sure I'd actually warrant it either.
I have quite a lot of clubcard points with Tesco's that I've accrued, so ideally I'd like to buy it there. Which leads me to the Tesco exclusive, Nikon S6100 that they have. Looks good, specs read well, good reviews. But for the price can it be beaten?
I've never used a Nikon before either. My experience with cameras has mainly been with Canon and Fuji, and a couple of Sony's. The Sony's were all rubbish, mega slow to react, good picture quality but I like taking action shots. Every Canon I've used has been much better. The Fuji's have seemed OK, but not as good quality as the Canons.
I like the looks of the features of some of the cheaper Canons, but then I'd much rather not have to keep buying AA batteries. I'm also not in the slightest bit worried about things like touch screens, pixel count (to a point) and 1080 video. I just want something that shoots good pics, that I can make the occasional vid on (max would be 720HD as I can't make use of 1080 anyway), and has a very low shutter lag.
What would you recommend?
it's worth having a look on the Jessops website. They have quite a lot of choice under £100, so probably best go have a trawl through, Google the cameras for reviews and go from there. Definitely worth trying them out in store too.
I have seen untidy camera bodies such as the Canon Eos 300d sell for a little over your budget but they don't come with lenses and it sounds like you want to shoot video too. I paid £150 for mine with a 12 month warranty and 5 batteries. I like the panasonic compacts, there are a few under £100.
I've got a lumix FS10 and it's awful. Got it because a friend was taking amazing photos with her lumix but it was 3x the cost. I hear good things about the Canon cameras
Dpreview.com is the place to ask this one. Good luck.
