Tapas is where it's at - dates wrapped in bacon is a particular favourite of mine. If we're keeping it traditional, a big bowl of whitebait and tartare sauce for dipping takes some beating.

Steak and Onion Baguette always goes down well

depending on whether the pub is a bit up themselves or not 🙂

It seems all the pubs in the UK have one menu. Its nice when you find something a bit different. We ride over to a pub near Killie that does a Full Scottish Breakfast with pigs face roulade and quails eggs - verrry nice.

Tapas is where it's at

When I lived in St Helens a Tapas Bar opened a few weeks before I left, having never tried Tapas before I thought I'd give it a go, I'd need to get meself all sophisticated and cultured as I was moving to the Birmingham megalopolis. In St Helens it seemed 'Tapas' meant a big wobbly paper plate overflowing with hotpot and pickled red cabbage. 🙂

Steak & onion baguette theortically would be an ideal pub meal for me. In reality, the steak comes out in massive chunks and I end up left with soggy bread....

Steak & ale pie always goes down well, a large burger, perhaps some kind of chicken pasta or a mushroom risotto.....

Yum.

I can't do Food AND Booze at the same time.

I'm either out for a meal, or out on't piss. Not both.

Mixing them has disastrous consequences for me... 😳

Seems to be a little bit of consensus about a beef/steak and onion baguette with gravy. Usually very nice (as long as it isn't microwave heated delli counter beef).

I have to say I went in a pub after a rambling club walk (?!?!) just before X-mas locally and had their home made steak and kidney pie, chips and veg. And it really was home made too. Lovely suet pastry and the pie wasa slice cut from a big one too. Probably the best bought meal I can remember having. To be honest the gravy could have been a meal on it's own!

Coronation Chicken bagette, and if being fat, a portion of chips with heaps of S&V to go with it.

Something about cold sandwiches and hot chips is just sooooo right.

A pub I went to north of Glasgow does a 'Chicken Montecristo', we wondered whether it was a vailed reference to the chicken not being free range

Perfect boozy dinner - some form of pie. A good fish pie with cheesy mash is unbeatable in my book!

It really depends on the pub as to what it is, but usually steak sandwich, Burger, Lasagne or Baked potato.

Guinness.

Anything at all with the words '...pie and chips' after it.

I've recently abandoned my default carnivore option, and been on a mission to find the best cheese and onion pie in the world. I am pleased to announce that its in the Major in Rammy. Which is handy 😀

Deep fried Camembert/brie/St Marcin with crusty bread and cranberry sauce.

Or Lancashire tapas. Basically a big bowl of different ickle sausages, with a mustard mayo dip. And chips. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Now I know why my local doesn't do food 🙄

I remember when the giant Yorkshire pudding was en vogue (90s). Our local used to offer them with various fillings. I'd have one top full of spicy chilli with a portion of chips and a side of cheesy garlic bread. Nomstering 'ell that was good.

I'm going to build my own reincarnation of it and drink 16 cans of stella to re-create those magic times!

More faves - a good club sandwich and a tuna melt; tuna, onion and melted cheese on a toasted baguette

Scampi and fries if properly prepared is yummy, however most pubs use monkfish tails as a substitute.

Steak sarny, chunky chips, onion relish. Happy days.

@Bunnyhop, they used to many many years ago but monkfish is more money than scampi.

It's a Dozen oysters or a crab po'boy for me.

Fond memories going back to late teens and ham, egg and chips in the Royal Oak (IIRC?), Hatherleigh, Devon. The ham was hanging above the bar and it was a question of a few good slices straight off and onto the plate...

... thinking back, mid-late 80s, pre- smoking ban, the pork should have been well preserved 😯

Back in the day, yes, but not now. Most pub scampi is formed from the shitty scraps, and formed with some other guff.

Imagine a Sunday lunchtime hair-of-the-dog? A full English breakfast pie, with chips and a pint. Frankly, I can't think of anything better than that
