Looking to buy a nice bottle of alcohol. It will be opened at a specific occasion (hopefully a celebration), which will occur at some point in the next 2-50 years, hopefully closer to 2 though.
Budget of £50.
Whisky would be logical (especially as I studied in Edinburgh so could get a local one), but not a huge fan.
Any thoughts? (silly and sensible suggestions welcome).
Ta,
Duane.
Glens vodka and spend the rest on blue wkd.
Mount Gay XO rum. Obviously.
Mad dog 20/20, lots of it.
Quite a fan of rum, so that could work.
I'm partial to the odd bit of vodka too..
Make your own Sloe gin.
[s]Grants[/s] Glens; the exciting vodka!
could buy a hell of a lot of Stella for fifty quid!
A bottle of 30 year old Port to savour at the end of said celebration. With cigars.
+1 for Sloe gin. Not sure how long it improves for though but its never had chance to find out in my house.
Yeah, that's the problem, need something that will last - otherwise I'd get champagne.

So, scrimp on one or the other and you may well be on to something!
Calvados. Get an expensive one.

And good idea I fancy one now *wanders off to get favorite crystal glass*
Lagavulin 16yo
Or I have a Port Ellen which will be about 10 times your budget
You can celebrate anything with Stella. Get Stella!
The cigars were from another budget Flash! That Port is an excellent choice.
Botanist gin from Islay. Money well spent
I think you need a selection, some bubbly to start with. Some nice gin as an aperitif. Whisky for mains and some port to finish. Perhaps some rum for later on, in case you get a bit peckish.
Massive bottle of Babycham?
At that price point?
Benromach Organic. You're welcome.
I know youn said no to whisky, bur Singleton of Glen Ord
You need to go to the distillery to get it (not even available on the internet), so very special.
Adnams Copper House gin x 2. It is mindbogglingly good.
Go to aldi, get 30 big bottles of 660ml señorita beater, and still have a fiver left for a kebab. Job done.
10 packs of WKD Blue and turn it into a massive bong bubbla.
You will thank me afterwards.
A good old and I mean old tawney port from
Grahams would be where my money would go!
I'm not really a bourbon person, hate JD and Jim Beam and the like, but a friend persuaded me to try a nip of Rowan's Creek whilst I was over in America. It's truly a thing of wonder. You can definitely feel the 50.05% alcohol as it evaporates in your mouth, but there's no horrible burn such as you get with really poor booze. Just a glorious honey-sweet flavour that melts into your tongue and a nice warm glow at the back of the throat. I bought some in the US for $40, but I think it's about £45 over here. I will be purchasing again, even at that price.

Well if you're drinking that shite... I reckon a good bottle of bourbon would be a good purchase.
Armagnac
Not a huge fan of whiskey myself but I love this stuff. Mmmmmmm....peatey.

Lovely stuff.
Cheers for all the replies!
Think I'll go for gin - but not sloe. Any more thoughts on what's decent?
