My local motor factors know nothing so where do I start looking for low-price reliable shock absorbers for my Pug 406 Estate? Any makes, models to consider? Kayaba, Monroe, Magnum?
Whatever the cheapest ones that eurocarparts do, don't buy them. Mine seem to have zero rebound damping.
Thanks. I've seen Kayaba for £50 per corner, not sure I can argue with the price and the quality.
Spax
No dampers only coils from SPAX for my 406, sadly 🙁
Bilstein if you can get them at a decent price.
Wishful thinking, sadly 🙁
Sachs/Boge or KYB or something. Don't go mad, it's only a 406 estate, if the damping on your current shocks is shot, then any half-decent damper will make a big difference. I had a similar thing with a Mk3 GTi - horrible rear end wallow and bounce - and a set of, er, not very expensive Sachs things, from memory, sorted it out just fine. Have a look at Eurocarparts and GSF's kind of mid-price level, they should all work fine. Or ask on a Peugeot 406 Estate forum.
Don't get sucked into the tubo diesel estate fetish that's in vogue here or you'll be fitting H&R Cup coilovers and a bloody great whale-fin spoiler.
GSF are generally cheaper than Eurocarparts.
