...do you also have to order it when it gets to the intermediate destination?

Just curious like.

Noy sure what you mean, shops I've worked in have preorded items months in advance, such as computer games. The game itself isn't completed and relese dates not always confirmed.

Pre-ordering - rediculous desperation to be one of the first people to own something, so much so you'll put money down in advance for something that hasn't even been made yet, with no true knowledge of how it performs or how good it is, just so you can have it before someone else who can't be bothered.

Happens a lot with apple products.

it's a bit like pre-heating. Very difficult to do in isolation

Arse.
I preorder quite regularly. Sometimes as much as a year in advance, often a month or two. They are things you might possibly be familiar with, but not actually handled one.
They are called 'books', and 'records'.
One 'record' in particular I paid in advance so the artist could actually take time off touring to record it. When I got it, it had a nice thank you letter, and she signed it for me when she toured over here.
It might do you some good to get out a bit, being stuck behind a keyboard all the time's making you bitter.

pre-ordering is system used by a manufacturer to artificially boost interest in their product. also allows them to receive money for goods before they make them, bit like an advance loan from their customers.
its a win win for the manufacturer

Really it's just ordering something, but they've not made it yet but it hyped so people really want it. An equally ridiculous term would be post ordering i.e. requesting an item after you have received it.

it's like ordering but with three unnecessary letters on the front

Well as mentioned it happens with nichewhore bike frames alot. I think it is a perfectly sensible thing to do if you want something that is going to be a limited run.

It is abused by companies to drip feed a market and create hype too but hell it works so there you go.

It is rather like calling shotgun and none of you would be as silly to suggest that is not an important and very rational thing to do 😉

I pre-order games and occasionally Blu-rays as you often get a bonus for pre-ordering and cheaper too. Just away of making sure I get something I want.

Really? I thought the likes of Amazon did not debit your card for pre-ordered items until they are dispatched.

Even if you don't pay at the point of the pre-order, since you're committed to buy once it is released, you are effectively creating the order book that justifies making the thing in the first place.

But, yes, abused, largely by producers of video games.

It's alright but not as good as series 1 and 2.

There, I just pre-reviewed it for you.

Isn't it just like bagsying something that is limited in supply?

I pre-order DVDs, I know it's a nonsense but I am a busy person and like to action tasks when they are in my head, before they fall out. Thus a bagsy on Amazon and it will pop through the letterbox when it's ready.
