I know he's not the best, but I still remember being gobsmacked when I saw a certain drummer and his revolving drum kit at Wembley in '87

(not wembley, but same solo)

i tried to find some video evidence, but youtube is being unco-operative at the moment so i'm just going to have to name names instead:

dave witte (municipal waste, burnt by the sun, etc etc etc)
ben koller (converge)
mike paradise (threadbare, 108)
dave wagenschutz (lifetime, paint it black, kid dynamite)
alex van halen (van halen, surprisingly!)

Neil Peart, he's a real percussionist as opposed to merely a drummer though ๐Ÿ™‚

Phil Collins may be a cockweasel, but he's not a bad skinbasher to be fair.

When Johnny Lydon was criticised for using an ol hippy like Ginger Baker on "PIL - Product", he said: "He hits the drums very hard and does exactly what he's told"... 8)

Best drummer that I personally have seen has to be Elvin Jones. Man, he could play.

Travis Barker is severely underrated.

Taylor Hawkins is also very good but under-appreciated. Just listen to My Hero by the Foos

CG - of course we've heard of Gilson Lavis - Jools Holland's Rhythm And Blues Orchestra most recently, n'est-ce pas?

Do we also gather that you are a bit of a ZZ Top fan then, CFH? Fair play! Should go to see The Hamsters when they're doing that particular set then, unless you can organise seeing the real thing (come to think of it, 'course you can!)

Ok, as an actual drummer, it'd be rude not to chip in with my list.

#1 influence on me is Mr Roger Taylor (Queen)
Then, in no particular order
Taylor Hawkins - Foos
Steve White - Paul Weller to name a few
Zak Starkey - Recent Who and Oasis stuff, AWESOME stage presence.

I would add You Toob references for the above, but i'm too drunk, and I'm busy downloading yur suggestions !

Tomas Haake, out of Meshuggah; manages to maintain the weirdest, most 'off-time' drumming for hours on end. Try 'New Millenium Cyanide Christ' for a taster... ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Also Paul Bostaph; amazing precision & seriously fast.
