I want to do a welding course I think, with the ultimate ambition of messing around with bits of metal bicycle. Anyone got any experience of courses in London, think it's a waste of time, or know what type of welding I should be looking at?

Some seem to run a number of courses:
"Courses are available in the manual metal arc, oxycetleyne, MAGS and TIG welding processes."

Thanks!

TIG and brazing might be a good starting point.

I looked into this a few years a go. There is full C&G at College of North West London 2 nights a week 30 weeks, I think you choose gas or mig then after you have done one of them you can do tig, but tig straight of was not allowed unless you had good previous experience. I didn't do this one as living in S.E London two nights a weeks was too far. A friend however has done this and enjoined it. I think he went on to do the 2nd year of the course.

The other course I found was a 10 week evening course at Walthamstow college 1 night a week. Spent about 5 weeks going gas welding 1 week doing brazing (not hard once you have the gas welding down) and 4 weeks on mig and playing with a plasma cutter. It was a good course but as ever left you wanting more.
