OH has demanded I ask the STW Hive Mind for suggestions for songs to play during a civil wedding ceremony. We were thinking either through PA or played by someone on an acoustic guitar.

So far my suggestions for when the OH walks down the isle are 'Imperial March' from Star Wars and 'The Final Countdown' by Europe. Both of which have been dismissed out of hand!

NB She seems quite keen on Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits.

a friend of ours is a very accomplished pianist, and he played Bach's 'where sheep may safely graze' for us.

It was great, because he could adjust tempo and volume to match what was happening.. rather than having someone poised on the play button and her indoors having to march in time to the music 🙂

We went with 'At my Most Beautiful' by REM.

Not a dry eye in the house.

How about a nice ballad?

Steel Panther - If You Really Really Loved Me*

*Lyrics very possibly NSFW if you look them up!

Otherwise, I think it would be awesome to see the Bride walk down the aisle to the Benny Hill theme tune. Perhaps she could run round the guests several times being chased by bridesmaid as well?

Romeo and Juliet? Granny cringe moment.. "When we made love, you used to cry..."?

How about 'Follow you, Follow me' by Genesis? It's a lovely track with sweet lyrics and a nice tempo..

We had Canon in D for when the Mrs walked down the aisle, almost had me in tears.

Once done we had 'I want you' by Bob Dylan.

Our friends had 'God Only Knows' by the Beach Boys, really good song, worked well.

I walked down the aisle to an orchestral rendition of Aerith's Theme from Final Fantasy VII:

I did want the victory fanfare for the signing of the register:

But we have the Flower Duet instead. 😛

The now Mrs Tinman walked down the aisle to the instrumental intro to 'All You Need is Love' by the Beatles. We walked back out to Van Morrison, Brown Eyed Girl.

I had a few great suggestions for the song to walk back out to. All of which were over-ruled.

Highway to Hell - AC/DC and Walk This Way - Aerosmith were two options but my absolute favourite would have been Queen's Another One Bites the Dust. The (wo)man from Del Monte said no.

Edit - Should have added, The Imperial March from Star Wars was also banned at an early stage.

"Back off bitch" by G'n'R or "I hate everything about you" by Ugly kid Joe, the choice is yours....

Personally I think it could really work. All the nephews, who are into Star Wars, would love it.

Self Preservation Society
Works even better if you have a fleet of proper Minis as wedding cars

Theme from Dambusters (with the bride doing that airplane thing with her arms whilst running down the aisle)

Nah, we just had the one song. It was very tasteful!

Mr Toast said that I could have Aerith's Theme if he could name the tables after famous dogs! 😛

Picking a first dance song was a nightmare, as neither of us have any discernible dancing ability. I quite fancied Richard Cheese's version of War Ensemble, Mr Toast suggested Closer by NIN. In the end we dad-danced to Queen's "You're My Best Friend"! 😆

If you want more classical music then the most recent pride and prejudice soundtrack is worth a look. WE used several tracks for back ground music.

Kiss me by six pence non the richer featured but I can't remember where, maybe when we left.

If she's not keen on the Imperial March, you could go for something more classy:

The wife walked in to this. I slightly edited out the middle bit for timing. I think the start is great and we had a few people in tears.

We then had a load of other pop songs on piano including Linkin Park and Pink Floyd. Sounded really nice to people who didn't know the tune and was a bit more interesting for those that did. Would have like to get a friend to play them live but that was a bit tricky to arrange.

We had something traditional to walk in with - she chose so I can't remember what it was
Instrumental of Hoppipolla by Sigor Ros when signing the register
Instrumental of Still Life by Suede when walking out

Daisy_Duke - "I hate everything about you" by Ugly kid Joe

I had the DJ play the intro to this before he went in to our first dance song. Should have seen the look on my missus face 😆

Instrumental of Still Life by Suede when walking out

Superb!

Continuing the 'indie' note how about 'You On My Mind In My Sleep' by Richard Ashcroft, 'Lucky Man' by The Verve, 'Shadow Of A Saint' by Ian Brown, 'The Only One I Know' - Warm Sounds EP Version by The Charlatans...

Older songs that might work 'She's A Rainbow' The Rolling Stones, 'You're All I Need To Get By', Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell...

We had handel's water music as we are both hydrologists... Cringe I know.

For the first dance we had barn dance.

But then had a mix tape, including the smiths and the wedding present. Like an early 90s student night club 🙂

Here's another one from the 'Sentimental' folder. I'm a bit of a softy, but I think it's a beautiful song and works pretty well.

Prodigy - smack my bitch up
Metallica - for whom the bell tolls.
Rammstein - buck dich

Maybe there is a reason why I'm not married?

Happily living in sin 😀
