Just gone to enter the Southern XC race on the 1st July and 'xcracer.com' needs me to register as a new user.

Fine, bar the fact their personal details registration page is unencrypted! 😯 🙄

This isn't the first time I've encountered a cycling website that hasn't got a clue over personal data security, though I did manage to get CTT to set up a SSL'd registration page back in April.

Will be interesting to hear if XCracer will offer alternatives.

If you think giving a name and address insecurely is bad...

I have an air rifle, and where I live it is permitted to have one with any level of power. In the UK above ( IIRC ) 12 ft/lbs of power it is a class 1 firearm - the same as a pistol or rifle. So.. I went to ask questions about air rifles of a higher power on one of the major UK airgun websites - they told me that I would have to email them my personal details, including address, for inclusion on their database before anyone would talk to me for "security reasons".

I walked away shaking my head.

Hmm

XCRacer has responded that they don't presently have the resources to offer encryption and Southern XC don't do postal entries.

Has anyone else registered with XCracer (and by definition, not given a monkey's about their personal data?)

Think I'll be giving this lot a miss.........

[edit]

Cranberry

That's just brilliant, in a OMG 🙄 kind of a way.

What info do you have to give that you're worried about others knowing?

And have you cleaned up that big oil patch on the multi-coloured paved drive outside your house yet?
