Those trousers are Dutch national uniform, along with very pointed shoes and coloured shirts with white collars and cuffs. It's comical to get a KLM flight and identify the Cloggies this way.

Sad thing I've got mates who used to dress like this. I think it's a phase every minor public schoolboy goes through in his 20s especially if they are junior officers in the army.

There is a female equivalent that involves White Stuff fleeces, puffer jackets and other crimes against femininity.

Pretty sure they are standard issue in certain colleges in Cambridge - you can tell how established a student is by how faded their reds are!

Excellent find. Here in Spain, if your over 40 and have a few quid, it's a requirement that you wear red, purple or pastel green trousers just to make sure everyone knows how loaded you actually are.
