As above, I'm after some recommendations for simple cheap web hosting. Mainly just to host a few images and possibly a wordpress blog.

It's mainly for sharing stuff with family and friends, so only low traffic.

Any advice?

Will they host pics that I can direct link to? I've been out of the loop on this stuff for a while.

I have used 123-reg.co.uk for years, good support and not that expensive.

If you want a personal blog, just use Tumblr?

Wordpress itself you can just host on Wordpress.com for free.

Images, any image store service. e.g. Photobucket for a general place to dump images, or Flickr for something a bit more organised.

Or just chuck them in a cloud service like OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox etc. All of these you can share to family and friends. OneDrive and I think Google let you organise photos into albums also and share from there. Space may be limited unless you pay up (buy Office 365 and you get 1TB in OneDrive), but Flickr gives you 1TB for free, though only for photos and they convert everything to JPEG. I think Google do similar.

Get links from wherever the photos are shared and you can link to Wordpress blog.

and +1 Tumblr. Simpler. Unless you want to customise Wordpress.

I've always liked and endorse 34SP.COM

I use a wordpress.org installation on my website as it gives a bit more flexibility in themeing and backups.

I'll add godaddy to the list although as others have suggested you might be best with Wordpress.com. Godaddy have 1 button setup for wp and their tech support is great. Got straight through yesterday and a problem I had with a site migration was fixed quickly and pleasantly

Yeah - don't ask me what the storage limit is, but I've certainly never hit it with any of the WP hosted blogs I've had in the past.

If it's just a blog, and you don't mind a YourBlogName.wordpress.com URL, a WordPress hosted blog would be my vote - it's dead easy to set up and works nicely.

wordpress.com - the templates are fine, you can have your own domain for a few quid and the whole lot is hassle free. gmail for business if you want an email on that domain name, £3 a month ~

THIS! 100 times this. TSOhost have been the most helpful and efficient hosting company I have ever dealt with. And, as a web designer, that is a fair few.
