Any recommendations for decent waterproof boots in the £100-ish price range, please?

Currently have a pair of NF Hedgehog boots that are about as waterproof as tissue paper despite supposedly being gore-tex lined.

I need something that really is waterproof and with good grip now winter is coming. I can handle wet feet or cold feet, but cold, wet feet are a killer.

Are leather boots and a tin of dubbing still a thing?

They are in my house.

Bought a set of 'summer' boots for using on the motorbike.

I thought they made me look like Steve McQueen, but was very aware that Steve spent his time biking in California ,not Scotland.

So out came the dubbin,a job in itself, after being hidden in the shed for decades ,the lid was almost welded shut. 🙂

Got caught out in a few showers and it was all fine.

This was also with a set of waterproof trousers* ,but you could see the water beading/running off 👍

* when on dog walking duties, I always take waterproof trousers in the bag

Daily dog walking use in the winter accelerates wear on walking boots. I use Merrell Moab Gtx in the late spring, summer, early autumn and they have just about survived two years just about but they are not warm

In winter I use my old leather Scarpa SL’s ( 15 years old, no goretex) which are still waterproof with plenty of waxing but look knackered. Could you use some older boots?

Go a size up on a pair of decathlon wellies and pair with some Amazon neoprene liners. I'm happy to do upto 20km in mine

Decathlon/Solognac neoprene lined wellies here for the daily 1hr dog walk. Also good enough for longer walks. Warm feet, dry feet, clean jeans, sorted.

As jimw states winter dog walking is ridiculously hard on proper walking boots, my last pair of scarpas got completely ruined by winter dog walks so instead now my approach is a nice pair for hiking which are saved for the fells and munros and a pair of grubs midline for winter dog walks and I'm really loving winter walking so far in them, perfectly dry and comfortable, warm walking.

I bought a pair of scarpa moraine cheap at the end of last winter which do most dog walks.  When it is really awful it's my grubs wellies

Posted similar the other day, as finding that my Meindl Veneto’s last about 8 months a pair, then totally worn out soles. Most comfortable boots I have ever had but expensive at a new pair quite regularly.

Yes, I do walk over 2000 miles a year with the dog, but still..

Dunlop furr lined wellies here. I ****ing hate wellies, but these are actually really comfy, warm and waterproof. And, only £32!

For me the cheap answer is Aldi neoprene fishing wellies. Been using a pair for a few years now (not every winter day, admittedly) and they're still going strong. Comfortable for well over an hour's plodding with the pooch through pretty much any condition.

IIRC they're only about 20 quid but you'll need to wait until they're in the middle isle, so probably not much help really.

Thanks, all.

i’m not a fan of wellies but those Grub Midline look ok so I’ll give them a go. 👍🏻

I'm never a huge fan of wellies either but I like the midlines and use them up over the crag so a hill which normally annoys me in wellies but these are absolutely fine.
