We're away from home for a couple of weeks. The neighbours that we might have asked to water the plants are also away for most of the same period. We'll have someone looking after the house but they won't come often enough to keep the plants alive in this weather

What solution would you use to water your garden (beds, not the grass) and LOTS of potted plants?

I've seen timed water meters but not sure how to rig up something for the garden and then something for the potted plants too

Couple of points to note

- the garden is my wife's bag so I don't really know anything about the plants

- we'll only really use this for the holiday so something cheap would be definitely preferable

Beds - nothing. Plants have roots, there's groundwater within a few inches of the top of the soil

Sounds like a job for a Raspberry Pi or similar project 😀

Sounds like a job for a big dripper or two.

House sitters/checkers can fill them up every 2-3 days when they visit. NB that was the first Google find, they may be available for less elsewhere

Move the potted plants all together in a shaded area and buy a micro-irrigation system that connects to a tap. It's not sophisticated (the plants at the end of the line get less than those at the beginning but its cheap and has worked in our greenhouse when we've gone away.

Our whole garden is on a drip feed system, each plant / pot / tub gets 1l / 2l / 4l / 8l per hour based on the drip module used. Comes on for one hour every evening....

First thing we did was move the potted plants to an area which is in the shade most of the day.

Easier to water in a group.

Then the neighbors did their thing.
