Omega AR coat both sides of the crystal and you can scratch it. Something to be aware of... it would annoy me, kind of defeats the point of having sapphire crystal
I like the snowflake hands. They are very “Tudor”. The fact the new Black Bay has dropped the snowflake on the second hand for a lollipop, whilst retaining the snowflake hour is all sorts of F’ed up in my eyes. Now three hands in three different styles. I wouldn’t buy another now.
ah re text text on Pelagos, yes absolutely right. I think the 39 has cut some text off though
Mind you the GMT I bought instead only lasted a year before I got sick of the enormous height of the thing and sold it
I can confirm DrP and neilnevill have excellent taste 😉

I’d have the Sinn over either Breitling all day every day. I have a tegimented U1 or 103 St Sa on my radar at the moment.
Well, I guess it's a good thing I like my own watch... I could wish for a bit less text but, having owned this model for two years, I don't notice it. IIRC, the original ETA-powered Pelagos was less wordy but not a smiley. Indeed, I bought the red Smiley in 2013, sold last year with a tear in my eye.
I absolutely do not consider the Pelagos to be 'look at me'. The size and thickness are perfectly appropriate for a dive watch. The case and bracelet are brushed, not glim-monsters; the more so as mine are scratched from hiking, snorkeling and diving. The legibility and contrast are excellent, presumably more so on the black model, and the date inobtrusive. Snowflake design is integral to Tudor dive watches, so I'd rather go all in with a Pelagos than the halfway house of the BB line (partly why i sold mine).
What cuts it for me though is that blue dial, which is matte and attracts only my attention... As a confirmed Hellenophile, I love the near perfect match for the Aegean sky and sea interface. Indeed, I nearly crashed my hire car off a Cretan cliff last September, gazing lovingly at that deep Blue! It also matches the Greek flag, the Γαλανόλευκη, and the Fix beer, so there, my taste justification is done.
@Kryton, nice colour match for the Banks beer! Unfortunately most of my watches are black dial and I'm not much into stouts 😀

Sorry for the repeats, dodgy connection waiting for a ferry.
When I get home, next trip to Paris, in addition to a battery change (please not full service) for my Reverso, is to check out the Pequignet boutique.
I'm still after a calendar watch, a bit smaller than my Oris, and a bit more upmarket in terms of finishing. Very hard to get much info online, so happy to go in person. I could cut loose my Z-blue Milgauss if needs be (which IS a 'look at me' watch, that I never wear). That would also leave enough over for a Damasko centre minutes chrono, DC86/2, as that crenellated bezel gives me unspeakable shivers...

Plus booty.

I hear this aimed at Omega quite a bit, but to be fair the AR coating must be pretty robust. My Aqua Terra was my daily wearer for several years and I'm not massively careful/precious about wearing it. There are a couple of tiny marks in the coating which you have to look very closely at to even detect, let alone notice , so I wouldn't let that sway my choice.
We all appreciate different things and that's were the interest and fun lies. Sometimes it's an old Casio I have had for thirty years and sometimes I'm out and about it's me me me with a nice piece I got to celebrate a significant moment in journey of life. Neither are right or wrong.
But bricklaying with a new nice watch on was in hindsight the very wrong thing to do, don't ask how I know.
Sweet Baby Jesus, it's a collection of wrist vajazzles
The Tag Carrera I sold had AR coating on top of the sapphire crystal. You could definitely see marks on it when reflected in certain directions. Not scratches as such, more scuff marks, and the crystal itself was fine. Had I kept it I might have seen about getting it removed.

On the subject of Seamasters I’ve just ordered a blue SMP 300M (October 22, near mint,) and am awaiting delivery. I’d like a blue rubber strap for it, so has anyone found an aftermarket one that fits them properly? Or am I better off biting the bullet and sourcing an OEM Omega one?
Definitely worth looking at Zealande straps as they have a range designed for the Seamaster, with a variety of colours, and you can also get a deployant with it. They may also have straps that allow you to use the Seamaster deployant. You're still looking around £200 though.
Otherwise Zuludiver may be worth a look?
@Kryton, nice colour match for the Banks beer! Unfortunately most of my watches are black dial and I’m not much into stouts
Its a lager!
Off to the capital today which includes 3x watch shops (and WoS) with “duty free” pricing. Expect more Watch based existational crisis later on 😂
I was keeping it quiet but have saved the fund for a Sinn U50, so all of these are up against that. Yes it’s more an “if you know, you know” rather than “sparkly in your face” piece but I really need to find somewhere I can try one on first.
Kryton if you're in Dublin give me a shout and I'll happily bring along my U50. I'm a big fan; it's a genuine GADA type watch, I wear it swimming in the sea, on the building side, at my desk and under a shirt/ jacket. I've had it 18 months and it's not got a mark on it. Before it I was kinda casting around for a next watch to get excited about, and nothing really got me interested; since then the Tudor Pelagos has looked mildly interesting, but the Sinn was absolutely the right choice.
Possibly the bigger question is... are you sold on the U50, or have you considered the T50? Functionally it's the same 500m WR, with the addition of the anti-humidity tablet and the much sharper handset from the pilot Sinns. If you wanted an all-round watch you could wear to the office too, it might be a better fit?
...3x watch shops...
Make sure one of those is Hinds, all that bling for about 300 sheets!
Thanks Nicko, I appreciate that offer! I am rather sold on the red/white/black of the U50, and I have a slight issue with Ti watches in that I prefer to feel the weight of a watch on my wrist. It’s a good call though - I just read the Hodinkee review - that confirms the proof will be in the wearing.
Our head office is in Munich, I’m going to see if I can find a reason to get there for work…

@kato you may have cost me – reckon this is good for £4.4k?
New? Absolutely!
(Chronext?)
I’d buy on a bracelet and get the rubber later. You should defo buy one though. They are lovely watches
So a bit of lunch, sweating, and worrying about ever bumping into Kato, ended up here:

They’re going to be a bit of a thinning out of the collection when I get home, but this was a rare occasion of right place, right time and a watch that fits and feels perfectly. I will were this more and with less fear than the Superocean Heritage as well, and am very please to own a co ax movement!
The Promaster is Jnr’s my first proper watch.
That’s a lovely watch Kryton.
Well done, nice watch, I reckon Jnr will have his eye on that before long!
👏 And about bloody time 😁
I second absolutely everything gaidong says about the pelagos (except driving off a cliff) and although I dislike my perception is the original 42mm pelly wasn't, in fact or seemed ignored while people fornicate over the bb then bb58. Now the smaller pellys exist they seem to get a lot of hype and the full fat still gets ignored. Well..... ignored in as much as any tudor.... it is the brand that seems universally w@nked over!
Kryton, I paid £3600 for a new one..... but that was when they were £4500. That was on bracelet. As said buy on the bracelet then get a strap of you want. There are some super sub 20 quid silicon straps, or good vulcanised rubber such as rubber b or Zealanders which are far less than the oem. You can also get decent snide deployants for about 20 quid if you want. My bracelet still has the stickers on and the watch wears a black sailcloth with white stitches and looks incredible. Black with red stitches, black, white or red rubber also really work. I may try a red sailcloth soon too.
Boblo, kato and I speak the truth.
And about bloody time
Ha Ha cheers. The AD had a difficult time and probably should have thought to ask my profession before we sat down, so £600 off the UK rrp including CC fees, £300 of international warranty extension to 7 years and a half price Promaster wasn’t a bad day out. I am very happy indeed. What an amazing piece of mechanical time keeping I’m so lucky to own. He threw in a silver necklace with pink topaz stone tat-trinket for my daughter too.
Mrs K looked at the box and went “FFS, how over the top” 😂
A fantastic choice mate. Seems to be a very popular watch around here! You won’t be disappointed with it
If you think the Seamaster box is over the top, you should see the size of my Moonwatch box and it’s ridiculous paperweight thing 😂😂
Anyone had or got experience with Lum-Tec watches.
Looking at a beater solar dive watch and have come across this:
https://www.lum-tec.eu/eshop-fr/collections-d-marine/lum-tec-special-ops-marine-4/
Also looking at the Seiko:
Any advice or alternatives greatly appreciated.
@scapegoat re. getting strap for your Omega, I've had this very well used SMP deployment clasp in a drawer for fifteen years or so. The navy Omega rubber strap is FUBAR'd, but the clasp is a replacement pin and a good polish away from being ready for a new home. Yours FOC if you can wait a couple of weeks.

What an amazing offer Pisco to Scapegoat. You should have your hand ripped off and then arm chewed up to the armpit. Very very generous, bravo.
Inbred853 - Unless you are a special ops marine I would go for the £299 but often in sale Citizen "Ray Mears" reissue and not the older "Royal Marines" printed one - for the same Walter issues.
Cheers Wally but I'll give the Citizen field watch a miss. Most numbers on a dial for me would be on the cardinal points and slightly less LARGE😁
Hopefully something else out there, Seiko might be worth tracking down for a try on. Lum Tec still a runner but probably to much of a faff to order and send back if I don't get on with it.
I love the Pelageos of gaidong’s, I nearly bought a Pelageos a few years back, only a black one rather than blue, but I stepped back because I just couldn’t justify the cost.
Speaking of which, because the insurance company holding my largest pension plans is being an arse and dragging out the whole process of getting the money to my financial advisor, I decided to stop the purchase of the new limited edition Rallygraf before they finished the production process and got a refund. I based the order on the expectation of a chunk of cash arriving in plenty of time, but it hasn’t happened yet so I’ve got the money back and stashed away just in case of an emergency; things are a wee bit tight at the moment, with just my state pension coming in.
Once everything is sorted, I may well get a Yema NavyGraf, they do an official French Marine services version all in blue like gaidong’s Pelageos, which is nicely understated and somewhere around £800-ish, so affordable.
Those Omega Seamaster models I’m afraid just don’t float my boat, if you’ll excuse the expression - I don’t like the large facets on the bezel, and I really do not like the hands! I’m not keen on arrowhead hands on any watches either, Seiko, Rolex, Omega… my favourite Seiko is the MM300, I love the hand set on that, and the Tudor ‘Snowflake’ style as well. Can’t say I’m too fussed about the Rolex ‘Mercedes’ style hands much either, they’re so common on so many other brands, or seem to be I’m amazed they get away with it.
One thing I particularly like about the Pelageos is the fine milling around the bezel, lots of grip with gloves on, some can be a bit slippery if you’ve got wet fingers; my SPORK isn’t quite as grippy as I’d like sometimes.
Not that I use it that often.

I will were this more and with less fear than the Superocean Heritage as well, and am very please to own a co ax movement!

@Kryton57 that’s a lovely looking watch, cracking deal too, enjoy and good to see you’ve finally got there !
