@walowiz interestingly I always wanted a Monaco too but tried one on when shopping for my engagement watch and decided it didn't suit my small wrists and felt a bit awkward. I ended up going for the fairly straight forward Carrera. However, since this one has been in my possession I've actually worn it a fair bit and got used to how it feels. I still prefer my Carrera but I don't dislike it as much as I did initially. I think the shape, being different to most watches, can take some getting used to
Obviously, the Mido has a Patek Nautilus feel, but for me it has more of a 70s vibe (and doesn't cost as much as a small house).

I like those Mido’s: not enough to buy one I don’t think, but I like the style. I also found myself liking an Hermes H08 as well, but at a considerably different price point!
Hermes H08 gets my vote too.
I think I'd like a green dial and a green strap, but they don't do that combo.

I just tried the new Tag Carrera Glassbox on. Gulp, what a lovely looking thing.
Having owned one I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another, the quality is far above the cost especially vs others. A £1000 CW will be a long stretch away from a £1000 Seiko for instance.
Meh, I’ll take a Seiko over any CW any time, if for no other reason than they have a much longer history, and have been highly respected and innovative over the years. While there are certain Seiko style features I’m not so keen on, like arrowhead hands, I can’t say there’s anything much about CW that would make me want to buy one.

it’s often an emotional thing E.g. “you like what you like”, but most know that Seiko QC above £500 and below £2k is a bit suspect currently. If you’re buying on a spec sheet only, it wouldn’t be Seiko that wins that argument. Jnr tried on the Padi mechanical diver the other day on offer at H Samuel for £46o, that looked very nice on the black rubber with the blue accents on the bezel.
I put my Arnie on this morning for the first time in a while though, with a sense of an old friend coming back into the room. That and the Samurai aren’t going anywhere, but I want to offload the orange 5 GMT albeit there’s a gazillion of second hand ones for sale so it won’t go for much.
That and difficulties with the 6Rxx movements in many of the seiko in that price range affect the views of many watch enthusiasts. Sellita and eta tend to be much much much more consistent.
Can we talk colourful watches? I’m bored with saving, and the more my fund grows the more uncomfortable I grow with the idea of dropping three zeros on a watch more that once in my life. So I’ve been looking at various colours, the blue CW Atoll appeals to me but I can’t justify that much cost tbh, but I’m coming more focussed onto one of these two:
The Luminox adds tritium to my collection, the Seiko is well just another Seiko but with a little bit of a fun element. So what are your thoughts on these, and what other fun type watches £500 or less should be on radar?
Got myself a nice little one make, sensible price collection for a smaller wrist. Last one was the mini turtle, was thinking on one of the new 38mm Citizen Promasters but decided to stick with Seiko.
Love those Ginza Alpinists. Wouldn’t pay what they’re going for now though so will just have to continue admiring
@pisco how do you find it? £500 for a fairly low grade Ronda movement kind puts me off, but the maybe overthinking. It looks fun / like it'd fit in on a beach quite nicely.
@kryton - not a fan of that Seiko, which is unusual for me. I do like colourful watches as well, but haven’t got the ambition to go above blue! My daughters have nice orange Breitlings. Out of your two I prefer the Tag, but don’t know if it’s too much for me to get away with

Having been following this thread for a while, I kept telling myself "I do NOT need a Dive watch". But birthday next week, sucker for blue (although liked Kryton's Luminux a lot!).
I have a couple of Torgeon watches including a Chrono but mostly still wear my Fenix 7 most of the time. Also have a drawful of older watches including a TAG I bought nearly 30 years ago and some Timex thing with a compass! I'll have to get a pic of my motley collection sometime.
Anyway criteria were 'blue', 'great lume', 'tough', 'light', 'not massive', 'no battery changes', £200 budget. Ended up with:
Which I appreciate has nothing out of the ordinary going on, but it fit my criteria, I liked the look of it both sober and after a couple of beers and it just came into budget. Hopefully get more wrist time, than drawer time 😉
Sorry @Kryton57 how did I find what? I haven't actually owned a Doxa Sub, although I have handled a friend's one, and the build quality/bezel action were very impressive.
My Luminox is very different to that one - it's a stealthy quartz 3950, but from a batch only given to the "Lynx" S.W.A.T. team of the Swiss police force.
A member of said team gave it to my mum's husband, who he dived with a lot.
FWIW I way prefer that yellow one, as I'm not a fan of lumpy bezels, but the Lynx has sentimental value.

The Luminox is great. It has been on many scuba dives (max 35m) and has always kept good time.
When changing battery today, I was thinking that it seems "overbuilt" eg thick backplate. Bezel rotation and crown action (quartz, no surprise there) aren't particularly satisfying, but do the job.
Mine is made of a carbon composite which is very lightweight and hard, almost like ceramic.
The tritium is nice to see in the middle of the night long after luminova has faded. I have another much older tritium diver where it's pretty dim though.
I think I'm selling the bezel short in hindsight; it's solid with virtually no return. It just doesn't have that sharp metallic click, but then it's not made of metal 😆
I like the yellow Luminox, have a thing for yellow watches at the moment. Keep looking at that Tissot Sideral but it’s a lot of money for a “fun” watch

I had a 1999 Seamaster, standard colour. Lovely watch, paid £995 back in the day. Was living offshore so only paid local taxes. Great watch. Prices are still very strong.
Stupidly game mine away to my former brother in law. I do have another Omega; a planet ocean not a Seamaster.
Not sure why but few yellow watches appeal to me. Breitling can do yellow OK but...hmm.

I had a yellow Tag F1 that was a beaut. Yellow face/strap and red bezel.
I've got a full lume Promaster now which kind of counts as yellow.
I like the Luminox too. I've been looking at them on ebay.

I went to Rome earlier in the year with the orange 5 gmt on black rubber. I enjoyed the look, but was adjusting the friction bezel 5 times a day - my ocd doesn’t cope. An orange monster appeals actually, although my local jeweller has the Antarctic Monster on sale and will trade in my GMT.
Hmmm, I might get the rubber back on the GMT for a couple of days and see how it goes, although tbh the oem bracelet and spring bars on that one are a real pain in the arse to get back on.

Yeah that Bezel would annoy me.
My Seiko Prospex Save the Ocean (above) the bezel is misaligned by half a click, it doesn’t line up exactly with the 12 marker. Annoys the heck out of me!

Dartdude - if the photo is on your phone, simply click the image icon (square with picture of a hill/mountain). This is just above the text box where you type a reply. When you click on it then just select source and photo library.
