I like the look of them, the bezels are sapphire glass I think. The pelagos makes a good beater for everyday if it's price doesn't phase you, the ti doesn't show scratches like steel and the pure tool looks suit some patina of use anyway. I can see how the blancpain would be a different kind of watch! Get it, it want photos!

My bronze c60 pro is great. Selita movement within a second a day until it's not worn for a day and as the power reserve drops it loses 10+ seconds over a day. They use cusn6 which means it patinates quite fast. Impressive quality. I'd try and pick up a pre owned one though as that will save you a good chunk.

On the subject of C. Ward...

My C6 Kingfisher needs a new battery in it (it chomps through them at a right old rate) and my usual go to watch guy in Debenhams is no longer there, so I was figuring I'd buy a case opening tool and do it myself.

Its a screw on back, 6 holes. Ebay has loads of options, or there's the squishy ball (Do these actually work?). Any thoughts/recommendations/preferences?

I was figuring to reuse the O-ring - just clean & relube it with the same stuff you use on Hope brake seals.

Does that all sound doable?

Thanks...

Is it me or have CW watches got expensive over the last 5 or 6 years?
I have one from way back and they were marketed as good quality watches (Selita or ETA movements, well finished, good designs) for much less than more premium brands. I'm sure the one I have was under £500, I suspect less.

@JonEdwards Yeah use a tool with the pins rather than a ball type one.  You'. be fine to reuse the O-ring if it's not damaged.  I relube them with silicone grease

Yeah CW watches have steadily increased in price over the years.  Still get a lot for your money though

I have a friend with a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tourbillon in rose gold, it feels very nice on the wrist and in the UK it draws your attention as it is a real stand out watch. In Dubai it probably looks a bit plain.
No idea on service costs though he can afford it so it has never raised its head as a topic.
I actually prefer the more basic versions but I am not mean enough to tell him that 🙂

I'm not the biggest fan of blue watches but that works really well with the fresh bronze.

You reckon?
I can get a Seiko or a Orient with an inhouse movement and a huge variety of designs for half the price. I really liked CW watches, but the higher prices now really put me off.

My personal experience is that the quality is a cut above a £500 Seiko, not that a £500 Seiko is necessarily bad by any means - I'm sitting here with my Arnie on my wrist.

Its one of those things that when you pick it up you can inexplicably feel the difference. YMMV of course.

Yeah

Quality of case and finishing is much higher than a comparable Seiko.  Certainly no misaligned chapter rings  and cyclops' or a bezel that doesn't line up like my old King Turtle.  Seiko can't do COSC for under a £1k either,, although I'm sure they are no where near +45/-25 like they say they are.  Saying that I've had 3 CW's and sent them all back for various reasons.  Mind you I've flipped every Seiko I've owned as well!  Got my eye on a no compass Alpinist though as they do look nice.

Tuesday is my birthday though, so expect a gratuitous wrist shot of a white Seamaster

@jp-t853, yeah, PM is not really on the menu, tourbillon even less! I struggle with the 4:30 date but I'll try some on and see how I feel. Not a rush purchase by any means...

help needed.
Im currently looking for a simple daily watch ( well, office daily watch)

I wear my garmin most of the time, when not at work and have a few nice watches passed down from dad and grandad that I can't face wearing everyday as they are a little bit, well, fancy.

It would be second hand purchase, around the 200 mark.

I was looking at the elliot brown canford. Which seem to sell for that price. The bloxworth is also around that price but I have a cheap "divex" diver that I was given by work, so dont really want another of that style.

Any other suggestions from the hive?

So after saying at the top of the previos page I was uncomfortable wearing my Vostok's with the Red Army connections, I've been idly looking for a new beater. This popped up on Wednesday on Instagram, and was too hard to resist as I also got offered a new customer 20% discount.

Komanderskie's are in their boxes until such time the Russian government is run by anyone other than evil arseholes. I hope that's a lot sooner than I fear it might be.

Nice!
What's the speech bubble logo top left? Is it telling you you have a message on your phone?
Idiot question, obviously, but I didn't realise Casio had added much connectivity to their G-Shocks (beyond the atomic time radio signal)

Yes, it does notifications, but it's a bit of a PITA to scroll through and actually read messages on the tiny screen when your phone is close enough to just read them from there.

It also does basic step counting and a running/training recording function alongside the partner app too. It's not multi-sport though so not sure it's much use for cycling, again you'd have to have your phone with you for the bluetooth to work, so may as well just do that on the Strava app.

Automatic time synchronisation is probably the most useful connected feature actually but I think it just goes by the phone time, it's not linked to that radio signal from Rugby.

Now THAT would be clever stuff.

The MSF signal is transmitted from Anthorn Radio Station in Cumbria by Babcock International, under contract to NPL. The signal covers the whole of the UK, and can also be received throughout most of northern and western Europe. It is monitored against the national time scale UTC(NPL) and corrected when necessary, ensuring that the transmitted time is always correct.

Most G Shocks do that, I think he was making the point that this one doesn't unlike the majority of them.

Well I'd have been right a decade and a half ago. 😁

The_'MSF_signal'_and_the_'Rugby_clock'"

From the time signal's inauguration in 1950 until 1 April 2007 it was transmitted from Rugby Radio Station near Rugby, Warwickshire. The transmitter's original location meant that the clock was referred to as "the Rugby clock". Following its relocation in 2007 to Cumbria, the NPL now formally calls the signal "The Time from NPL".

I had a look at them when I was walking along Princes Street the other day in Edinburgh, they look ok, not a fan of the straps at all though.

Been having a look through this thread and it's really interesting. I can appreciate that chronographs are nice watches, but I think I prefer a slightly less busy watch. It's all personal taste though which is what matters, and if there's a nice story behind it, all the better.

Which leads me to mine. I got this as a present for my 21st, 15yrs ago. I was a bit of an idiot at times back then but I'd chosen this with my parents and it's a nice reminder that amongst all the questionable decisions you may make when you're younger, you can make some good ones too.

I went into the Swatch store on Oxford Street on Friday and was told in a very sickly and rehearsed way, "oh sorry, sir, we sold out of them this morning," which I strongly suspect is what they say to _everyone_. They couldn't tell me when they were next going to get any, but "it should be soon" and they don't get regular deliveries of them, I just need to keep going back and checking.

I don't know how much of any of that is true, it was really frustrating and if it wasn't for the one display case with the actual watches in, in a glass box in the shop, this would feel a lot like vapourware. Swatch aren't responding to any of the critical comments on Instagram; it's hard to see how this whole thing is doing anything positive for them as I don't think very many people will buy other Swatches while they're waiting, and they'll just get pissed off with waiting.

Are they theoretically available in all Swatch shops now, and not just the London/Edinburgh stores?

I read an article recently that asked this question, seemingly not. Omega and chrono 24, a country's distributer all reporting record selling of Omegas and mostly speedmasters. It did recognise some collectors saying they were selling their omegas but it doesn't appear to have harmed the brand.

I've always liked the bronze bay, it looks gorgeous. I ought to try one on for fun assume time. With a pelagos in the collection, and a bronze CW C60 Pro, I don't have room for a bronze bay but I can still like them. I suspect it will wear quite big, it's 43mm so bigger than the pelagos and steel BB, which already wear large as they are thick and slab sided.

Tudor bronze is a lot more resist to patina than most. I like them. I just don’t like the patinated look on some bronze watches

anyone like an Alpinist?

im like the “baby” ones without the compass bezel SPB155 etc I think

I believe so, I guess it's an aluminium bronze rather than tin bronze. It does still patinate but slowly, or it can be forced. All bronzes are relatively easy to clean back to raw and if you want too slow any patination they can be waxed.
