@Kryton, wonder if they’ve bought it where you are and bringing it back to the UK without paying duty?

I replaced the crystal on my Seiko 5, went from domed to flat sapphire. Give it a go

Has anyone here actually got their hands on a Moonswatch yet?

Was thinking of dropping in to Covent Gdn Swatch to get a moonswatch to flip. Surely no one is actually paying those eBay prices though?

Not available online yet so no.

Are they back in stock at the shops now? You can see the prices ended auctions attracted on eBay, I might take a look and report back.

Between £500 and £750 seem to be typical! 😨

I have seen people getting positive feedback on Moonswatch sales of £1200 on Ebay. People are just plain crazy. Swatch have even put a notice on the website to say that they are not limited edition and they hope everyone who wants one can get one so they are planning on shifting a lot

My Dievas is the perfect holiday beater. It won't win any beauty contests, but I love the brutally industrial vibe (and I'll never have a Ploprof 😕)

Madness. I almost want one, they've done a good job imo but I'm not a fan of busy chrono faces.

I finally sold my GS SBGN005 today. It took quite a while despite being the cheapest example in Europe on Chrono24. No regrets on letting it go as a I hardly wore it but mucho paino on the 28.5% loss, and I bought with a 15% discount off rrp!

Oh well, live and learn.

Has anybody got a vintage digital watch from the Swiss manufacturers?

I have this from ca. 1978:

Thanks, I cannot wait until 6pm 😃

derek, no but Jody JOMW recently reviewed this and I’ve been thinking about it. I was going to get a gold A168 just for digi-kitch reasons but this is more like the Hammy:

Gents, I have a dilemma

20 years ago I bought a quartz Seamaster after my old man passed away.  Didn't know much about watches then hence it's a quartz.  I have said I'd never sell it, but having seen the prices they are selling for my head has turned a little.

Bearing in mind I think it cost me £700, they're going for around £2200 with boxes and papers.  I have begun to look at it as £2200 towards the £4850 cost of a new Seamaster (I like the white one) with the ceramic dial and co-axial movement, which is a lot more watch.

I'm in two minds whether I will regret this though.  What would you do?

I've also a quartz Seamaster and I can't say I'm really bothered about it not being mechanical. Does mean something to me though as my wife bought it as a gift and only the other day my lad picked it up and wanted to wear it as he thought it was really cool. If you have similar attachments I'd rather keep the quartz, and spend the £2k, you'd need to find to upgrade, on something else.

Do you wear it? Do you think of your dad or other good things when you see it?; if not, flog it but, £2200 ish purchase price ... Money in pocket after sale much less.

Oh and new white dial.... Can still get for £3600 ish in the right places.

Where is the right places where the White Dial can be had for £3600? That’s a big difference.

What would you gain by selling it?

A mechanical watch is not going to tell time time any better. To 99% of the population the watched will look identical.

Why not get it serviced, new crystal and polished up so it looks like new? Won't be cheap, but it will give you the watch with the sentimentality, looks and everything other than the guts.

On the other hand I asked about a new bike on here and some one said nice bikes are nice. I'm 50 out of 130 miles into a ride on a nicer bike. Its a carbon version of the alloy one I was on before.

I'm no faster, probably not any comfier. Its still nice.

Why not get both? 😎 Nice watches are nice. Saving the extra will give you something to look forward to and make the purchase more memorable.

There was a month old unworn one on tz-uk at that price a fortnight ago. Iirc it may not have sold yet, it definitely didn't sell for several days. I was very surprised. Let me go check. Think it may have had an extra strap or something bundled in too.

2 were listed in march.
1. Listed 24th, unworn and still stickered bought from a Boutique early Feb, unsold at £3700, after a week or so it was sold off forum (eBay I think)

2. Mint condition may 21 watch listed early march. With bracelet and omega black rubber strap, £3400 and took 10 days to sell by the look.

I thought its held sentimental value but it doesn't really and I find I don't wear it as much as I should.

"why not get both?" @tall_martin I just bought a Tudor GMT so don't have the money to buy a new Seamaster straight off.

Sensible head on says don't sell it and wait until I can afford to buy a new one, but I'm impatient once the seed has been sown!

Well, I'm  going to suggest saving up again then. If you have the Tudor and the little worn quartz seamaster you have two "new" watches to wear while you save. Is there not some fancier version of the sea master you could get with the saving plus the quartz seamaster money? Some thing more limited?

My son inherited his great great grandfather s watch. He's 2, I thought a 1920's solid silver pocket watch would be worth loads. £100 on eBay! That particular watch sold by the boat load.

If you would like a return on the auto sea master in the future, just incase it's not your forever watch, a less common version might be in more demand.

Nice things are nice. After I posted that last message, a bloke went past in a bright red vintage Ferrari. The driver looked very pleased with himself. I'm sure you would be just as pleased with a different version of a classic watch .

If it's not got sentimental value, sell it.

I've got my dad's Bulova Accutron - he's still alive but gave it to me 20 years ago. It's got sentimental value so I've had it serviced (a pain for tuning fork watches, not a lot of places can do it) and wear it. When he dies I'll probably get his Rado ceramic but it's not the same - I can remember him getting the Bulova in the 70s and being so proud of it.

Nice things are nice. After I posted that last message, a bloke went past in a bright red vintage Ferrari.

In 2005 the boss of our small company - the one that started my career - sold it for £9m and held a party at his Surrey pad for all 25 employees. At 2:30am he showed us his new dark grey, red leather interior DB9 sitting in the garage, and let those interested sit inside and rev it. The smell, sound and hand stitched leather around the dash left a lasting impression on on me.

One day, I will own a luxury watch and it’ll be the watch that stops me buying any other Well, maybe…

Indeed I do bolo, and I agree it's bloody lovely. I used 'James Henry watches'. Google will find him, and got mine for £3600, which was an 18% discount at the time. RRP has gone up twice since. I'd been watching tz-uk for ages and either missing out (too slow) or felt some were asking a little too much. Eg some were up at £3800, and selling eventually. So bought new through James. As is often the case with tz, it goes in waves, but I was stunned to see the one at £3400 with extra strap take ages to sell.

Good quality lasts. This Constellation is 30 years old. I bought it in August 1992 from WoS, King St. Manchester.

Window price was £525. I asked for a discount for cash and he knocked off £50. Can even remember the salesman's name - Brian Potts!

Just been in to look at a BB58 blue and an Omega Seamaster Diver 300 in white. I want to get a watch with the money that my mum left me, something tangible. They're both really nice, I can't decide which I prefer.

@boblo Tried on the black and the white SMP 300 today.  Black is the safe choice but the white was a stunner!

Wife has said she'd buy it for my birthday and likes the white one more so that's the choice made!

@Murray there's quite size difference and a price difference between those two.  It would be the SMP for me

Good man Kato! And @Murray,, both good but don't rule out the black bb58 or the standard BB if you are ok with the size of the SMP. If ok with that size and the SMP price then the pelagos is also worth a look. I would say that though, I have a blue pelagos and the White SMP

Can't remember if I said already, I've put the SMP on s black sailcloth with white stitching which I think looks rather good. I like the LL look on the omega rubber but find rubber straps sweaty and I don't like them, the sailcloth is a similar look though. Whilw fitting I had a play with my po bracelet. Since I have the 42mm po I thought the the bracelet might fit and it does... Almost. The end links are a perfect snug fit except the spring bar holes don't line up and the bars won't go in. I may get some new bars and try a little bend to the end, as in my view the po bracelet looks and wears very very well.

@Kato I guess it depends a lot on what you attach the sentimental value to. If you're going to look at the new watch as a replacement of the old watch, and the new one will mean the same to you, I'd say sell it and treasure the new watch.

My father bought me a limited edition Swiss Army knife for my 18th birthday. I've managed to lose it twice, so have bought myself a replacement each time. Of course it's not physically the same knife, but it still means the same to me... if that's how you think you'll feel about the new watch, why hang on to the old one?
