I wasn't expecting a smart / fitness watch IvanDobski.
But for the £675 I paid (dreamer see) I expected at least time and day / date. Cripes - even the Bionic LED watch I bought from Woolworths in 1978 offered that and for £13.99!
It's a lovely looking watch, very well built (the red crystal setting is amazing) and water resistant.
I was just disappointed with the lack of day / date and the dim display when not actuated.
Isn’t that the point though?
Yes IMO. I wore my Fenix to a long weekend away recently in the basis it was rugged, I didn’t do anything but look at the time with it, it may well have been that lovely Hamilton. I shall wear it on the same basis to Centerparcs next week but at least there it’ll be used to record some bike training I’ll be doing hence is actually useful.
I find myself in compare and despair mode now. My AD has emailed that they have my desired gilt BB58 in stock, do I want to come and have a compare with a Pelagos. Of course I do. But I sat last night doing a mental comparison with the Gecko above:
Gilt / Black / vintage colour scheme - check
20 bar - check
Sapphire - check
Red lume pip triangle - check
COSC - check (well kinda, the PT5000 in the Gecko is highly rated but will never be tested by the Swiss)
So, £3k for the words “Tudor” and “Geneva” on the dial… at least rationally, probably not!
Kryton - you cannot factor rationality into this discussion.
You can wax lyrical with all the grandiloquence in the world about the whats, whys and wherefores but the fact is: YOU want to own / wear / enjoy / stare at a Tudor wris****ch, BB, Pelagos whichever but you want it and your mind will not stop whirring until you leave that AD with a box and a smile.
Have a nice day!
Exactly right
Lol!
You are probably right. Back to the Hamilton, where was it at 40%? Asking for a friend (yes really!)
@Kryton57 - my Seiko Presage "Irish Coffee" (SRPJ17J1) turned up yesterday. I took some photos but it's really hard to capture the lovely dial in the sunlight. The dial looks like the radial sunburst style dials of other cocktail time Presage but when you look closely in the sunlight you can see the additional scalloped/rippled effect radiating out from the centre. It's subtle but very well done
Just watch the JOMW review you posted for studio quality images of the dial. I've also got 7inch wrist so it looks the same on me (albiet with pasty white arms). I completely agree with his review in that the dial is gorgeous, the strap being the wrong way around is a bit annoying but it's got a deployant clasp so it's just aesthetics. The strap isn't that short so I'm not quite sure why he moaned about that
You are probably right. Back to the Hamilton, where was it at 40%? Asking for a friend (yes really!)
C.w. Sellors. Technically it was 31% off the now £725 rrp, then they were offing another 10% off the sale prices. I actually paid £422.92 though. They’re going for more than that used on eBay.
Kryton I cant help thinking if you bought the Tudor you'd want a Rolex next anyway.
If you are sure thats not the case then why not buy the Tudor and sell a couple from your collection to soften the blow.
@ElShalimo. The wrong way round strap is the right way round for a deployant. Same orientation as the clasp on a bracelet. The leather and deployant on my Tudor was the same way round
@elshalimo - thanks! Good to know you're enjoying it.
Kryton I cant help thinking if you bought the Tudor you’d want a Rolex next anyway.
No I don't like them. And the Tudor is probably my Max price limit anyway. Having said that my grail is a Fifty Fathoms or Breightling NaviTimer, neither of which I can afford and will probably start a savings plan soon aiming for my 60'th. Which means I won't be buying the Tudor.
sell a couple from your collection
Its an educated one-in one -out minimum these days after the Casiooak foolishness, but the grail would sit alongside only 4 others maximum, and possibly be one of a collection of three.
Yeah I'm sat at 6 and really I would feel happier at 5.
I've my PO out from is safe place and had it on since Monday. God I love this watch. I know they get a lot of flack for being thick but it's honestly really really comfy on my wrist and they are only 16.5cm, and flat. It's ten years old almost exactly and has gained just under 3 seconds in just over 3 days. I sort of feel it deserves a service, but when it's still so accurate, why?
@ElShalimo be very interested in pics of your seiko presage. Looks very nice in the official press pics.
I’m quite enjoying @Kryton57 ‘s will he / won’t he.
I’m going on Hols now
Does Hols know...? 😳
Aye Kryton is to watches what Molgrips is to cars... 😁
If/when you do buy the Tudor (and I'm not anticipating an imminent purchase considering the soul searching job wise on the other thread) you'll need to do the big reveal here so we can all make admiration/cooing noises 👍
1st refusal please, when the chop comes;)
@Kryton57 - are you taking a watch roll?
Or did you solve the riddle of a watch that Bond would wear in the swimming pool and at dinner?
are you taking a watch roll?
I'm off to center parcs, so no just the Fenix will do nicely as I will be doing intervals on the MTB, in/out of the pool.
It’s been going on for 159 pages and shows no sign of abating, there’s a lot to enjoy there if that’s your bag…
Its not just me here with watches in an out of the house, although I admit its been quite a journey/education.
Anyone bought a watch from ebay Japan? Is it 20% import duties?
New range of field watches from Nite, first automatic range as well afaik.
I'd link directly but, you know, website.
Anyone bought a watch from ebay Japan? Is it 20% import duties?
20% VAT, I think 3.7% duty and then admin handling charge on top; if it gets caught.
Very nice.
I have a 4yr old Omega Seamaster 42mm for sale.
Boxed and certified
I still owe myself a 40th birthday present 3 years later, twins in full time nursery put paid to that! But their 15 free hours kicks in next month so apart from coke, hookers and a 23 plate Porsche on HPI I'm looking at a new watch
Ah coke, hookers and Porsches, I joke, I'm looking for something decent under £200, I have a Mondain which although gets skated on here it's the only thing I've ever had a comment on, there's also a vintage ultra thin vintage Seiko dress watch, full black Casioak and classic A158WA-1DF Casio.
I am on the lookout for an old 60s Omega, there's a seller near me with one on gumtree for £200 but he's unresponsive.
So looking for something inexpensive but not total crap, the Citizens on here catch my eye, also, what's the score with Bambinos? Which mk is worth the trouble?
After all these pages and adjourns to random YouTube channels the Speedy is still my grail watch
There are a few videos on YouTube comparing the various versions of the Orient Bambino
I'd recommend saving up for an Omega, there are loads on ebay at sensible prices, (and loads that are expensive too). I'm wearing the early 60's one that I bought off here ages ago right now, it's a beauty and keeps great time*
Typical example, which is Quartz but there are plenty of mechanical ones that turn up.
*apologies but I can't remember the user name or find the messages about it, but I'm still looking after it!
Both head and heart day save for the Omega, the doubt in my mind is picking something up tats 50+ years old and it needing a service costing as much as the watch as soon as I buy
I like a Mondaine. It's a design classic
Hi watch experts! Hope you can help me out here. My late father in law had quite a lot of 1960s watches including two Omegas (one a seamaster), a Zodiac and a Tissot 1853 amongst others. They are all in worn condition and I'm sure need a clean/service etc.
We need to get them valued. As these are quite well know brands, would a local jeweller be able to give us an estimate? It doesn't need to be precise but we do probably need something more accurate than googling the model number and averaging the results!
I expect we'll sell them on, but that's a longer term thing.

Old faithful on today.
SNK809.
Many thanks for the heads up Blazin Saddles, managed to get 40% off a jazzmaster👍
@Alex sorry to hear your loss. Yes if the local jewellers does vintage pre owned, the watches you have all sound common and easily. Make sure they know its for probate not insurance.
Sounds like scratch might like to see them.
New range of field watches from Nite
i quite like those, especially the gilt / black dial. The problem is your into Hamilton Murph 39 territory at that price, you’d really want Tritium to buy the Nite I suspect.
Yes if the local jewellers does vintage pre owned, the watches you have all sound common and easily. Make sure they know its for probate not insurance.
Thanks @neilnevill - I'll make sure they know why we need the valuation.
Rubbish pic but it's all been a bit hectic. Never saw him wear the Seamaster, mostly wore that more modern Tissot. I'll pop them in (and a few more not pictured) tomorrow.
, what’s the score with Bambinos? Which mk is worth the trouble?
Definitely - g1/v1(mk1).
Maybe - g2/v4
Definitely not the versions with roman numerals (g2/v2) and absolutely not the versions with squared off hands (g2/v3) or arabics (g2/v5). I might allow the small seconds but the open-heart is also best forgotten.
I will die on this hill.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
I've liked the Certina Heritage DS re-issue since it was unveiled at Baselworld a few years ago. I've just took a punt on this one for a very fair price.

It will be my first watch with the Powermatic 80 movement, so interested to see how it performs.
Happy with this one 😁

That’s handsome. I like that
FYI, Zuludiver.com are doing buy 1 strap get 1 half price this weekend.

What do you all think of Breitling? I ask as, aside from the navitimer, I used to think every Breitling watch was very poorly styled....too big, too brash, too...much visually. I am finding myself admiring the latest superocean and superocean heritage watches though. Maybe I need help, but these seem much better. Interested in others thoughts.
I have a 25 year old brietling colt, photo from this morning hopefully below. They kinda lost their way a bit with constant model changes that killed residuals and some shonky designs but have been doing some very nice watches in the last year or so, the premier and the top time are rather nice as well as those you mentioned.
I have to say that my brietling has been pretty much faultless through the two and a half decades I’ve had it and still keeps pretty good time and only had one service. IMO it looks pretty good on a new Hirsch rally strap.
They also make a nice change from a Tudor which every man and his dog seem to be wearing at the moment 😉

superocean
My extend Barbadian family have assured me I can pick up the green dial 3 handed 41 on Rubber for £2900 when I am there in August through our connections to a local AD. I’d need to try one on here before I go.
Didn't Brietling change focus a touch with management changes last year in an effort to tone things down a bit? A mate has one of theirs at £8.5k he loves it but it's not to my taste at all, each to their own.
Considering a Sinn 556 or 856 but not sure if the 856 is worth the extra (to me). The extra scratch resistance and the better anti magnetism seem to be the main differences but at nearly £1,000 more, those don't seem significant enough to justify that.

Am I daft for wanting a Japan made Gshock over a Chinese one?
Yes if they're identical except for the writing on the back.
The sinn tegimented steel is, supposedly, incredibly hard. I've read that many times on forums. So if scratches bother you then it may be worthwhile. Then again, a few scratches over time on a tool watch may not bother you, and you may be very kind on watches too.
Ah I wondered if they had a new design team/ ethos in at breitling so that makes sense. Together with the tudor movement they have gone for a bit of a move back up market then perhaps. Their rrp still seem frightening although they aren't the only brand in that box, but the Awful residuals make them seem very exorbitant new.
Kryton, which? The colourful/ playful turquoise with cream chapter ring? Or the bottle green? No hang on, they Are 44mm.... there's a 42mm bottle green bronze case... or do you mean the heritage? https://www.breitling.com/gb-en/watches/superocean-heritage/b20-automatic-42/AB2010121L1/
That's 42 also though. I like the playful coloured superoceans but the green heritage is a stunner. That watch in particular is what is making me reassess the brand. First dibs on that too, when you chop it in please 😉
See now that colt is a perfect example of what I don't like. An incredibly busy dial, over size subdials, childishly large hour numerals AND minute numerals, with different fonts... what else could they do to make it busy? A tachymeter scale chapter ring and a diver/60 minute count up bezel maybe.. and quarter hour lumps to the bezel maybe plus marking EVERY minute. I'm happy you like it, but it's starkly different from the new watches and I'm noticing these new watches.
Yes it was the heritage B20 I was referring to.
Can’t say I’ll be buying it currently unless my luck turns a bit at work.
Nice watch though. The lugs look a bit odd, weirdly long and over wide, but the rest is well proportioned and minimalist and stunning. Tzuk sales corner brought that watch to my attention and I've found myself searching out the post and looking again and again at the watch.
Decided to put the original bracelet back onto my Seiko SPORK the other day. I had my goldsmith mate take a couple of links out not long after I first got it, I think it needs at least one more taken out, it’s a bit… slack, shall we say…
The bracelet is very heavy, which doesn’t help, it pretty much doubles the weight of the watch.

the 856 is a 40mm case too. 556 is 39mm
That extra 1mm is what puts me off trying a 556. They wear small apparently
I’ll be putting a Seiko on the market shortly.
Any love for a Seiko Prospex Kinetic GMT (proper jumping hour hand) with bracket plus aftermarket rubber and nato straps?
We’ll find out I suppose.
It’s this one

Yes the 856 is a bigger case, the 556 does feel a bit small coming from bigger watches, but in reality it's not that bad. I'd happily take it a mm or so bigger but not at the cost of £1000.
This is my 556 on my 8.2" wrist.
EDIT - not sure why it chose to rotate the image, was correct when uploaded. grr
The lugs look a bit odd, weirdly long and over wide
Hence I’d like to try one on here before the Rum & sun becomes an influence 😀. I’m off to Westfield on Monday where there’s Beaverbrooks, Tudor, Ernest Jones and WoS so I may come back with a collection of photos 😇
Thanks for the info on the Sinn watches chaps, shame there aren't more UK based brick and mortar dealers for the brand as it sounds like it would be worth trying them on first.
You guys make me feel cheap with my battered Nixon Rocker. 🤣
I have a Superocean, mine is about 5 years old. Resale value is pretty strong for them which I take as a positive.
On mine it is a bit “busy”. I’ve posted it on this thread a few times. I think over recent years Breitling have removed a lot of the unnecessary bits and made them better looking.
I also have a Tudor BB and I prefer the Breitling to the Tudor (but wear the Tudor a lot more for some reason)
@Neil let me know if you want me to upload the photos of the Superocean.
Photographs please kryton:)
If you've time how about photos of some of the colourful superocean watches too.

That sort of thing
Woodster, I remember yours I think, photos are always good on this thread though.
Anyone bought from Jomashop in the US? And anyone understand what import fees (and handling charges) are likely to be levied for a watch of £100?
In terms of colourful Superoceans, I bought both my daughters one of these…..they were a bit non plussed to be honest!
My Superocean (if I can upload!)

Too late 😂 bought an old dw5600c, needs a bezel.

So is thread for boutique watches or any? What's the rules so to speak?
Blimey, difficult to please mini woodsters! (Splinters?)
Those older superocean aren't bad, I much prefer the new ones though

But they are a considerable jump in price! Breitling price increases are some of the most eye watering.
@relapsed_mandalorian - no rules on this thread, just people enjoying watches from $5 Casio to £50k footballers monstrosities
This is my favourite watch. Purchased in 2004 from the Burton store in Innsbruck. Sadly the strap gave up recently, you can see the signs of impending failure in the picture.

It's currently on its way to Nixon EU for a replacement, battery change and a new gasket.
Nothing spectacular, but a lot of memories attached to it.
My everyday watch is a Garmin Instinct Solar. I am currently debating between and EB & Breitling from their respective military projects. But then a Seiko caught my eye in John Lewis today. 🤣
You guys make me feel cheap with my battered Nixon Rocker
I'm wearing a ten pound Casio f91w right now!
Those superoceans look nice in the pics, but with that big wide rehaut, (that's the bit around the edge of the dial right?) And a 36mm case, is the face not a bit small in the flesh?
That’s an interesting Nixon, what’s the pusher for? Light or something else?
As luck would have it, I had my Breitling out for a spin today. Bit too much gold for my tasted these days but I like the Alligator strap still:

That’s an interesting Nixon, what’s the pusher for? Light or something else?
Just a back light. Illuminates the whole face which is nice.
The model started life as 'The Powerslave' a homage to Iron Maiden. It was the watch body and strap without the leather cuff.
It didn't land well, poor sales and negative feedback on the look. Around 2002 the cuff was added and branded 'The Rocker'. It was seen on the wrists of a few artists in the early 00's.
I've had a few Nixon's over the years.
everyday watch is a Garmin Instinct Solar. I am currently debating between and EB & Breitling from their respective military projects.
Post the images so the hive mind can suggest some completely different alternatives?
Ah yes! Rehaut! I'd been having a blank trying to remember, thanks. Yes it would make the disks dials small. In the big case sizes it likely works well to stop them appearing monstrous and the 36 probably seems dainty and feminine. Remember 36 used to be a mens size not much more than a decade ago and ladies divers like the seamaster are still 28mm, so I suspect that superocean in 36mm still has a far larger dial than a 28mm ladies seamaster. I have not viewed any of them in person though so.. I reserve the right to be wrong.
I like that Nixon, very different. My preference would be the EB over a Breitling, but that’s just based on the military/rugged/outdoor nature of the EB brand.
Here’s my daily beater with a new strap. I bought this watch from one of the guys on this thread, came with the metal bracelet, I’ve always preferred rubber or NATO straps.

Today I’m wearing my Seiko Recraft. Not my picture but exactly this…
https://images.app.goo.gl/DDjRhTB6AErMG7EV8
Too late 😂 bought an old dw5600c, needs a bezel.
Yeah that's nice. What's going on with the strap pins things?
@JAG also nice. I have a green face rounded Seiko recraft on a metal strap, love the looks but by god it weighs a tonne.
Yeah that’s nice. What’s going on with the strap pins things?
Thanks- they are the pins to hold on the bezel. I've ordered a repro bezel something like THIS
