Shouldn’t you be getting an Omega Railmaster then?

Nice flieger! I was tempted by a Laco, but the Miyota movement put me off (I have a Smiths Everest, which is lovely, but the movement noise is a bit tinny...)

I too lusted after a Stowa and finally have a Verus, which is every bit as good as I hoped. Similar to your story, though, I found myself looking at the square Bell and Ross jobbies, but as I have tiny wrists, I'm not sure they'll work - so I've ordered a £19 version from Wish in China... we'll see!

Are they not issued as part of the standard uniform?

Ball(watch)s to that!

Here's my new NATO strap - I rather like it for £10

Commuter trains into London. Electrostars I think their called. I’m not a train nut but wanted a career change so here we are. It’ll mean a pay cut during training but we are fortunate we can manage a bit. Was being very unhappy at work so ultimately this will mean more money for less hours, so I can spend more time watching my kids grow. No more nights either!!

I do like the dial/design and I'm even OK with the Quartz movement. Might have chipped in if it was 40mm, but I'm not short of a dive/tool watch or two at the moment!

I do like the Elliot Brown but I'm not that keen on collaborations which have the collaboree's logo on them, I'd rather it was a bit more discreet.

On a separate note, had anyone got a Safarni and if so what do you think of it?

I don't hide the fact I like G-Shocks - just waiting for delivery of the one on the right - it was half price on the G-Shock store, as it's a bit marmite. I already have the one on the left

Watch experts, is there a watch that will give me phone notifications but doesn't have the associated fitness apps etc. Currently using a Garmin Fenix 235 & only really want it to show me txt, email & WhatsApp alerts.

I know I could set the Fenix to just show this but the 235 is just a bit boring looking & I'm a serial cheap watch changer. Before smart watches I used to by watches for £10 & change when the battery ran out.

It's also got to withstand me wearing it all day fixing and riding bikes so can on occasion take a battering

@rOcKeTdOg, What about a fitness band, like a Garmin Vivosmart 4?
Should do all you need without the GPS stuff, it's also pretty small and doesn't look like a watch, I wear one on my right wrist and a real watch on my left.

Artist - I have the 35th anniversary steel G Shock.

Have you had any problems with it? I've had to send mine back twice as the solar
panel wasn't charging the power cell.

Gorgeous looking watch though!

Can anyone recommend a Casio or similar that has daily alarms that you can set for each day? or at the very least different alarms for weekdays and the weekend?

Also I'd like it to be small-ish and cheap, ideally with decent WR and backlight illumination.

Casio 5 alarms

This is solar, WR and has a backlight (LCD panel only).

It has five alarms but I'm not sure you can set then with the intelligence of a smartphone.
I guess you would have to set the times Monday-Friday but manually enable /disable them appropriately.

@derek_starship thanks, I have those same 5 alarms on the G-Shock I have already though.

Seems the Timex Ironman can do weekday alarms, they're not that cheap though. I could have 5 Casio F91Ws instead

It's nice that ex-STR. The pushers seem a little overly recessed though. Are they okay to use?

A bit expensive too. Why dearer than the GMW-B5000D-1ER?

I've not even set it up properly yet tbh

Wouldn't pay full price, got it half of full rrp @ £225 from the G-shock site. Hasn't even got Bluetooth

Anyone else think the best looking watches are either from tbe 80s or have an 80s vibe to em? Been loving the old red LED type watches on here, but always lusted after one of these bad boys from the Kays catalogue as a kid:
https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=citizen+ana+digi+temp&id=1A6F2CC7C4FDC8250F8F4BD58A2088F46DD80230&FORM=EQNAMI

Anyone had one? Have read theyre quite temperamental, and often need repair, not surprising since theyre nearly 40 year-old electronics.

Also, any love for tbe Sinn space watches and the tutima titaium military watches?

really like that Yema, but can't help thinking the markers are somewhat phallic.

I had an Elliot Brown, Tyneham. Mainly as most of their watches are too big for my skinny wrist, the STW collab included.

Been having a real quandry over 2 daily 'desk divers' that I own, I've got a seiko that sits just right on my wrist and at 40mm is really comfy, but also bought a citizen promaster last year on a whim to try something different. The promaster is bigger at 43mm and is a lot more legible as a result. The bezel action is the better out of the 2, the second hand hits all the marks and the bezel is spot on aligned as well. Despite this though, I think I'm going to have to sell it - it just doesn't sit as nicely on my skinny wrists as the seiko :-(.

Quick update for you all on the Elliot Brown Singletrack watch project.

There is a minimum order quantity for this run of watches, and we have to hit this number to get the watch into production. And we have good news… we are just shy of hitting the tipping point to make this watch… it’s in the bag, we only need a handful more people on board.. There is now only one week left to get your name down on the list and secure your watch.

So… massive thank you to everyone who is on the list already. And here is the link for those who are teetering on the fence of awesome watch ownership.

I'm going to treat myself to a new Elliot Brown automatic so I'm putting my Canford up for sale. I'll post some proper images up in the classifieds over the next day or two but if anyone fancies it then it's the silver dial with the charcoal chapter ring. Currently on an orange zuludiver rubber strap but also includes the original brown leather deployment strap.

New battery installed this week at EB, pressure tested etc etc and includes the original box, papers and travel case.

£175 RMSD

Image here shows the colourscheme of the dial, not the strap etc.

I've acquired this Luminox series 3950 after the previous owner sadly passed away recently. He was a dive instructor and wore this during all his dives.

I must admit, when I first saw it, I thought it was an unremarkable Tag copy, but have come to appreciate it quite a bit.

It's from the Navy Seal edition. 44mm, Swiss Made, quartz, 200m water resistance, carbon composite case and bezel, mineral crystal, permanent lume tritium flasks (mostly blue with the 12 o'clock being orange)

The badge is the logo of the Swiss Police Elite S.W.A.T. team, who commissioned Luminox to make these for their team. (The watch was a gift to the previous owner from a diving buddy who was part of this team)

Nooooooooo! I thought I'd picked up a watch I've been saving and saving for, as a great priced pre-owned... Messaged the seller and chased and chased again, yes still got it, I'll take it just need a couple of days to clear a small amount of the cost into the bank.. Or could take now if he was interested in a Seiko for the last few hundred.... No response for 2 days...I chased again.... It's been sold to a shop. Argggghhhh! Oh well, sometimes it's just not meant to be. I is frustrated though.

Looking for reccomendations for my 50th

I'd quite like a MR-G, but they are silly money for a G-Shock

I like diver style watches

Ones that have caught my eye are...

Tissot Seastar 2000 - but possibly not 'special' enough

Tissot

Seiko Prospex - again, not that special

Seiko

Tudor Black Bay - a little small at 41mm and top side of what I want to pay

Also the Pelagos

Tudor

Pelagos

Any suggestions at around £2k?

Don't you dare buy the red Black Bay, I have that in my basket for my own 50th. 🙂

I would just say - read up on Tissot before you make a judgement - the TdF quartz I bought oozes quality, you could not compare it in any way with a Seiko for example. The back history and the reason they are cheaper explains that in the main they are every bit as good as the Tudor. Maybe anyway... 😀

Artist, slightly more special 62 mas le? I've the green dialed one, it's visually stunning.

The original black bay isn't small, try it, it's slab side make it a chunky watch. Particularly the modern in house movement one as it's thicker. Likewise the pelagos (I have the smurf)

If you you really do want a larger black bay get the bronze, it's 43mm

The captain cooks do look good, both the steel and the bronze. I've not tried one but iirc they are smaller in steel.. couple of different sizes... One being a le? Someone here has it.

Or how about a Bulova fifty fathoms? https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/bulova-mil-ships-w-2181

@cb200 that’s really nice – I like the stealth look, and the back story!

Thanks @pierre

I'm really enjoying it. Trying to capture the shiny numbers is difficult..

So I managed to lose my Suunto Smar****ch whilst on a flight 🤦

I was going to replace it with a newer model, then started thinking how much do I actually use it? Will my phone suffice for Strava etc?

So, loving but not wanting to damage the Luminox, I've decided to go for a chunky quartz beater dive watch for a budget of £250. The hunt is on...

I've been wearing my Samuari - same colorway - this week and have fallen back in love with it. So far its Samurai for the week/work and the Arnie for the weekend in rotation. That one's take a few bumps though!

My "beater" is a Seiko SKX007J, I love it and wear it all the time; I run a bike shop so although I take care of it it's often knocked in the workshop. It hasn't picked up a single scratch so far...!

I’ve been wearing my Samuari – same colorway – this week and have fallen back in love with it. So far its Samurai for the week/work and the Arnie for the weekend in rotation. That one’s take a few bumps though!

Close up it’s less than perfect, but at normal distance it looks superb and hardly marked.

I still don’t know why I bought this, or why I follow this thread for that matter.
I have my Orange Monster imported from Japan some time ago that I bought for my fortieth, that I absolutely love, so I did not need another watch. The Samurai is a real surprise though, much better quality and look than I was expecting.
Hopefully this is it for me, and I won’t be on the hunt for a sumo. Do like the look of the Elliot Brown mentioned above though, must resist.

The STW watch, I would have gone for - had it been automatic, 4-500 for quartz just doesn’t float my boat, really lovely design though.

@Kryton57 the orange monster is a belter of a watch. I’ll try and get a pic up - even though everyone knows what they look like and tbh compared to some of the watches here it’s a little understated.

@neilnevill

Walowiz, there is a reason the thread is ‘n+1’!
I still haven’t got end to listing my sumo if you’re interested 😂

Go on, do you have a pic ?

It's photod on here a few months ago, the present model with the sapphire crystal, in the green. I really like it but got hold of the green limited edition 62mas and two green Seiko divers is ott.

I'll post some photos to again later. I'm flying solo parent today as wife is in hospital with my 1yo (rushed in to a&e with breathing difficulties last night).... Older two girls swimming class next then I'll have more time

Thanks @SteveT1 that ticks many boxes and seems a bargain. I have my eye on a few EBay and Watch Forum sales at the moment, but that Citizen will definitely enter the race!

No worries, if my wrists weren't so slim I'd definitely keep it, it's feels a much better quality than the Seiko I'm keeping.
